Hi all. Just wondering if any of you minders give babies under one year your own food or ask parents to bring food from home until the first birthday? I have always insisted that parents pack all bottles and food. I have a 7 month old baby who is weaning well, but still developing his tastes. he manages lumpy and finger food ok, but I am reluctant to take over his meals at this stage because Ilast time I did this with a 9 month old baby, she was very selective, fussy and had no appetite when teething, off colour, etc. The parent is asking me if I can provide all food to save her time . I havn't given an answer yet, but my instinct tells me to stick to the parent providing all food. I appreciate that its a faff for working Mums, but it would be really hard for me as I have 2 two year olds here as well and one of those brings a pack-up! Any advice gratefully recieved! Hi Mustbemad
All childminders do this different but personally i do provide food for under ones.
i have a weaning chart which lists all of the fruit and vegetables we have in my menu and i get the parent to sign next to eachone when they have given them a minimum of 3 times.
One of the babies i look after i have had her since she was 6 months and her mum provided jars at first and when she had tried fresh veg and fruit i started to make fresh for her.
it depends on you and on your parents. i am happy to do this as i cook fresh everyday but i do have jars as a back-up just incase we go out.
ofsted were happy with me doing this on my pre-reg visit.
wherebouts r u in derbyshire?? i'm in derbyshire

On this one I'd say stick with what you are happier doing - mum can freeze food ahead so it shouldn't be too much of a problem

Hi,
I supply the babies with food to save the mums time. I prepare from scratch everyday anyway so whats another little mouth. My little one loves whatever I make which great. its normally things like homemade soup, cottage pie, sausage and mash and I always have a few jars as a back up incase I take the older ones to pizza hut or mcdonalds as a treat.

I have to say I don't really have a hard and fast rule on this. I tend to do whatever is convenient for me and the parents and take each case individually.
You sound really hesitant about doing it so maybe you should tell the mum that you want to wait a little longer before you start doing the food and as Miffy says the mum could always bulk cook and freeze!
Let us know what you decide.

hi ya all Thanx for your replies. I have spoken to Mum and explained my reasons for feeding baby with meals provided from home for now as I do not have the time to provide an alternative if he rejects what the others are having. I said all that before on her visits anyway, so sticking to my guns! He only comes for 2 days, so she accepted my decision fine..... for now I'll see how it goes. Ta very much. mustbemad xx ;D
