OK...Give me any other type of pet & no problem...but I'm a bit stumped...does anyone have one they would share? I've made a start...safety of the aquarium....but then stops rather abrupty & I know there's other stuff to put in, but I just can't think! Tasha

Sounds very weird having one for fish I must say haha
Well I would do the usual and say that it will be out of childrens reach - a large tank children can stand on something and fall head first into it !!! Which I am sure you are already aware of - just some pointers to make
Also that the children will not be allowed to put their hands in the water due to germs etc
They will help with feeding with your supervision
Sorry that is all I can really think of

Hi Tasha!
Have you said that you will keep the food out of reach?
That any fish that leap out will be put back promptly - ha ha! (I used to have goldfish at work and one was forever leaping out - I never knew they did that! Perhaps he was so bored he was trying to end it all!)
You will introduce the children to the fish every 2 minutes to account for the fish's lack of memory retention and to ensure that they are all familiar with each other at all times.
Any fish that have passed away will be removed swiftly!
Children will be discouraged from watching or commenting on the fish that are pooing! (We found this fascinating at work and we were all grown adults!)
Oh yes, children will be taught not to torment the fish by tapping on the side of the tank or throwing things into the water (we didn't do this at work by the way!)
Sorry - at the end of the day I can't help you! He he!

Don't forget to count the fish regularly. One of my friends "lost" a fish once. They found it a few weeks later in a drawer under the tank. When questioned her son admitted he wanted to play with it and put it in the drawer so he didn't have to get his hand wet next time!! lol!!

I have kept tropical fish for a few years, they are great fun!
Some thoughts that might be helpful although probably aren't! What about safe keeping of the chemicals, corners of the fish tank ( my 1 year old is perfect head banging height so the corners have foam stuck underneath them as they over hang the stand slightly), ensuring tank is against a wall so it can not be pulled/pushed over, keeping electric items away, etc.

Good Advice from Debbie
Just thought years ago one of my friends had some fish and caught one of her children trying to eat them - thought that is what they had for tea with their chips !!!
Imagine that yuk ha

It's OK Dee ... I laughed too...thanks for your replies everyone...I 've already covered all the points...mostly to do with tank safety...& the first thing I did was put corner protectors on it...which my son promptly ripped off, so have now bought edging foam! Guess I was just over thinking things...must remember to KISS Thanks again it was lovely to have someone else to ask & make me laugh! Tasha

Glad you got it all sorted Tasha - you will have to take a pic of the tank and upload it so that we can see all your fish

Can't you cover it by having a risk assessment for it? Do you need a policy?

I've got a risk assessment for mine (not a policy) - some useful ideas from people to add - thank you! Sarahx
