Hi there,
Sorry you're not feeling very well.
As I would understand it, if you are given notice on the Thursday - then it is 4 weeks from that date. So, your sick week would be included - if it was after that date.
Hope you get well soon. Lisa x

If I happened to be sick when the parent gave me notice, I would include it in the notice, after all if your contract states 4 weeks notice required there is not alot you can do, it is just bad timing. I think you just need to work with the parent, if notice was given mid week and they wish to leave 4 weeks to the day you will need to respect that. You could negotiate that you Finnish on a Friday if you wanted to.

Get well soon!
As said if its your sickness then its not the parents fault that its happened in the notice period. If they were sick it wouldnt be included, unless you charge full fee for sickness anyway!

If they gave notice before your sick leave started then I would include the week you were off as part of the notice period.
If you were already off sick when you were given notice I would consider that different. If you spoke to the parent - by telephone or visit to your house I would start the notice period from that date. If you got a letter dropped to your house I would start the notice period from the date I read the letter; you may not necessarily have read the letter on the day they put it through your door. And if you were too sick to read it, or in hospital etc then it would be reasonable to start the notice period from your next working day IMO.
If they give notice mid-week, I work out the 4 weeks exactly; so if they give notice on a Wed their place will only be available for the next 4 weds unless they've requested a later finishing date.
