Reading EYFS 'inclusive practice' further info on the cdrom, it says we should have a 'race relation action plan'..... yes, i'm a saddo who reads these things on a Sunday morning! It's quiet!!! Do you think this is enough? I've tagged it onto my equal opps policy........................................ Race Equality statement Relevant acts - the Race Relations Act 1976. The Race Relations (Amendment) Act (2000) obliges Childminders to ‘eliminate unlawful racial discrimination and promote equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups' The EYFS states – •All children are citizens and have rights and entitlements •Children should be treated fairly regardless of race, religion or abilities. This applies no matter: - what they think or say; - what type of family they come from; - what language(s) they speak; - what their parents do; - whether they are girls or boys; - whether they have a disability or whether they are rich or poor •All children have an equal right to be listened to and valued in the setting I ensure equality of access for everyone – I have carefully examined my teaching resources eg books, toys and artifacts, to ensure they represent all sectors of society in a positive way I challenge racism and racist bullying and promote positive attitudes to cultural diversity I promote good race relations in the local community Looking for feedback please guys!! Looks good to me Sarah - I hadn' t realised that it needed to be done. Sorry I can't be that critical as I'm so new to it all myself but I'm sure there will be others along with suggestions to tweak Mel x

It looks great Sarah.
However, after being told that the whole EYFS might yet change for childminders I wouldn't get too bogged down with changing everything until we know for sure.
You'd think that a good Equal Opportunities policy would suffice, but what do I know ;D

Pauline has already given my answer - childminders are being advised to hold off untill Spring 2008 - we will be then told what is applicable to us & what equivilents ie a goog equal opps POLICY instead of an action plan, so while it's good to be aware of certain changes, that might come into effect, I wouldn't spend too much time working on it all just yet, as all your hard work, could be in vain! I have to agree with Pauline and Tasha
I am not going to be bogged down by this yet
If and when I do have to do it - my paper work will be simple

Thanks for that advice! Where does it say we've to wait? I've got a letter from Ofsted giving me permission to use EYFS from whenever I want but before I start I feel I have to make sure all the documents are right - not just the learning and development side of things Sarahx

I spoke to the NCMA directly, because i was concerned about certain things in the EYFS & how it would be v. hard to implement. They said that becuse it is for all childcare settings - they are waiting for OFSTED to conferm exactly wha is & isn't expected of childminders, which will be in the Sping 2008 - then NCMA will make any neccessary changes & advise members. Basically at the mo, we have different National Standards for different setting, with the EYFS that isn't the case, however the NCMA is negotiating with OFSTED as a lot is irrelevant as we offer such extended and different care as childminders or creates needless paperwork for childminders ie the statement rather then excisting equal opp policy - hence, why we don't quite know where we are at at the mo! My network coordinator has confirmed all of this! It's fine to implement the play side of things if you really want to, but I personally will wait untill it's all sorted out as like you i like all th correct forms in place first! The other reason I will not implement it yet is I would like to attend training on it first, as quite often, but not always you are given paperwork templates & other goodies that I found really useful with B23- so I will hold out untill next September! Hi Sarah, Because I am new to minding and have 2 who are over 3, I am also just using EYFS as I don't want to spend loads of time concentrating on B23 and Foundation stage only to rework everything in a few months time. I am however only concentrating on the learning and development at the moment as until I've had some training I can't imagine how some of the stuff would fit in my setting.
