Hi
I need some advice please! I am waiting for my registration certificate to come through so I am busy doing my policies but I seem to have rather a lot.
Here are the policies I have - do I really need all of these?
Accident and Incident Allegations of Abuse against Childminder Child Protection Complaints Confidentiality Closure Dropping Off and Collection Equal Ops Fire Handing Over Responsibility Head Lice Health and Safety Healthy Eating Hygiene Garden / Play Equipment Lost Child Managing Behaviour Medicine Pet / Animals Physical Contact Settling In Sick Child Smoking Sun Protection Television Transporting Children by Car Visitors in my Home Working in Partnership with Parents
Surely parents aren't going to read all of that lot?
And then there are the permission forms to do yet which I haven't even started on!
Please don't tell me I've missed any policies off because I think I will just go completely stark raving mad!
This just seems rather excessive and completely over the top!
Please help!
Lorri

Hi Lori, you have forgotting the biting policy, the bullying policy, what you would do if there was a terrorist attack policy, the what you would do if you lost a child policy, Alchol and drug abuse policy, television policy, sleeping baby policy, exclusion policy and I bet I've missed some, I think somewhere there is a thread that gives you a list, but I cant remember where it is Pauline or Dee might know, Mandy

No way! Really? I need even more?
I've remembered that I need a payment / fees / late payment & hours of work policy and I remember reading about a flu pandemic policy.
Surely this is just complete madness? I've got 34 pages so far for parents to read! Parents must think we're potty! I'm going to feel really guilty asking them to read through this lot!
I don't recall my friend saying she had to read through all of this when she put her little girl into a nursery?
Wow and I thought I'd nearly finished my policies! I'm depressed now!

i have to say regarding all these posts about policies:
Earlier this year i had a visit from an ofsted inspector-someone had made an anonomous complaint that i was over my numbers, anyway it was all ok because i wasnt and i could prove that with my attendance record etc, but it was still awful that someone had made a complaint but anyway i digress........ while she was here she asked lots of questions obviously as they do and i asked her if she would like to see my policies, she said "oh yes pleasehow fantastic you have written policies, not all childminders do" anyway this was only feb/march time so can someone pls clarify exactly what we HAVE to have or is it just another of ofsteds grey area? Anyway the inspector was lovely, hope i get her for my inspection!!!!! Lou

Can I just point out that you don't HAVE to have all these policies.
The ones you ought to have are:
Confidentiality Procedure Child protection/Safeguarding Children Procedure Complaints Procedure Behaviour Management Policy Equal opportunities Policy Emergency or accident Procedure Illness/Sickness Procedure Late Collection Procedure
Of course having others is a great way of sharing information with parents and showing Ofsted that you run your business in a professional way but you shouldn't receive a lower grade because you haven't got some of the other policies.

My childminding coordinator suggested that I made a little booklet just taking the pertinent points out of each policy and I give this to parents - then if they want to look at the full copy, they can ask - they're all kept in a file on the back shelf by the door they use Otherwise it starts to look a little scary! So now when parents come I have a welcome booklet and this little policies and procedures booklet..... much more environmentally friendly! Sarahx
