Just finalising all of my paperwork and i'm a bit stuck on what to charge for holidays etc
I have decided to give each child 2 weeks free hol every year and half fee for anymore they take.
I was going to charge half fee whilsi i was on holiday but what happens if the children have their 2 weeks when i have my hol? what do i charge?
i will charge full fee for child sickness but no fee when i am off.
I am also going to work bank holidays (except xmas day, boxing day and new years day) - just mainly because my partner works them all and i'm always at home on my own anyway. do u think i should charge all parents for them (if they land on a contracted care day) and charge extra for the ones that want care? i was going to charge an extra £2 an hour so that £5 per hour
Its all confusing, it would be great if you could tell me what you all do

Hi Jenny
There are no right or wrong answers as to what to do it is really up to you.
Holidays - The parents pay me for their holidays. The do not pay me for my holiday.... If their holiday coincides with mine then I don't charge them as I think this only fair after all I was intending to have the holiday regardless and if they match mine then it would make sense.
Sickness - The parents pay full fee if they are sick but none if I am sick.
Bank Holidays - I charge full fee if a Bank Holiday falls on a contracted day but to be honest I have never worked them as I haven't had to - but if your parents jobs required them to work them then that would be a different matter - I would certainly charge a higher rate if I did work them....some people charge time and half some charge double.
Hope this helps

I do the same as Dee with everything regarding sickness and holiday pay
I had used to work bank holidays for a while last year instead of the usual £3 an hour I charged £5 an hour
Like Dee says it is up to yourself
Good luck

:)Hi,
I charge full fee for their holidays and no fee for mine - if we take holiday at the same time then half fee. I work bank holidyas at my discretion and add £2 to my normal rate - if I choose not to work then normal fee is charged.
Hope this is of help - as Dee says there is no right or wrong - it's your business & you choose when to work and your fees - your the boss ;D

I charge half fees at xmas & easter. Any other bank holiday is full fees.
Any other time I am closed there is no charge. Any other time I am open and child is absent (holiday, sick or whatever) its full fees.
I noticed on a US forum that some people have a day or 2 compassionate leave written into their contract eg for a funeral. Does anyone do that?

No Susi I haven't ever written that into a contract but to be honest if that was the situation then I would automatically allow the parents a few days out without paying me.
If it was me needing the compassionate leave then I would take it but not charge them.

I dont charge for my holidays but their holidays are charged at full fee's.
Im thinking of changing to half fees for my own and their holiday but have not decided as yet.
As said further up the thread, charge what you will be happy with as its more difficult to change it once you sign any contracts
