I do have it in my house rules that no shoes are allowed in doors
Whenever I interview a new parent I call them in ask if they would all remove their shoes I did not like doing this and sometimes I still dread asking but I still do, I have never had one complaint and I think everyone is happy that we do
When I show them all my paper work there is one page about my house rules and it states that no shoes to be worn in doors, they can bring slippers if they wish but no one does
When children arrive for the day parents go at the door , then the children take off their coats and shoes the children soon get into the habit.
If anyone does complain say it is wear and tear on your carpet if they wear them and also you have children crawling around and lying / playing on the floor so you think it would be unfair if someone were to walk something in to your carpet.
You are not being a pain at all ask away about anything that is what everyone is here for.
Hope that helps?

I've got pretty much the same as Angel, in my "House Rules", which I have as part of my policy pack, it states:
Everyone, including parents, are asked to remove outdoor shoes and leave them in the hallway before entering the main rooms, this helps keep the carpets clean and reduce germs in play areas. I hope you appreciate the need for this as outdoor shoes can accidentally pick up dog mess and work boots can carry oil and grease. By removing them it avoids the risk of damage or costly cleaning bills and keeps your children safe from harm.
I also add "no throwing or ball games indoors" and "no jumping or climbing in the furniture"

Just to add Keeley - it's not a silly question, it's a good rule to have, a minder friend of mine had a Dad who was a car mechanic and he walked oil all over her cream carpet!!!
