Is it possible to request an inspection from Ofsted? I was inspected about 20months ago but I have improved my practise greatly since then. I am expecting to lose 3 children during the course of 2008 (2 ft 1 pt) and will need to fill spaces. I was picked up on some fundamental errors in my practise during my last inspection ( no fire drill, garage door not locked) which let me down but I have now addressed all points that arose and would like the opportunity to show this to Ofsted and have it recognised in my report for potential parents.

Hi Sarah
Like Jon said I don't think so, you will just have to wait until your inspection is due, I was like that they pulled me up on some things and I really improved but I was told I had to wait until my inspection was due.
You could ring them and see what they say but I wouldn't hold out much luck though.

Well you have surprised me
Most minders do their best to avoid Ofsted so they can get everything ready - but you WANT THEM TO COME OUT ? Haha
To be honest Ofsted would EXPECT everyone to have improved their setting by the time their next inspection is due so that is why they come out every 3 years and not before
I am sure it will still be recognised whatever you have improved on but you are going to have to be patient and wait till your time is due like everyone else

I had a moan to an Inspector that I thought 3 years was far too long between inspections. Even if you're really good a lot can change in that time and it doesn't look good to parents visiting if your inspection report includes lots of stuff thats clearly out of date IMO. And when they make changes I (like when the report went from barely a page to 5 pages long) it puts you at a disadvantage when showing your report to parents who've seen the newer reports at other childminders. But she dismissed my opinions saying they have to concentrate their attentions on newly registered childminders and those that didn't do so well at latest inspection. I would be happy to go back to yearly inspections.
You could write a letter to Ofsted advising them of all the points you've addressed & attach a copy of your letter to the copy of the inspection report you show/give to parents so its clear that you have dealt with everything.

I think I will create a document showing everything I have improved and attach it to my report in my parent pack. Thanks for advice, my worry is for parents that judge minders by only reading reports on internet

Thanks for advice, my worry is for parents that judge minders by only reading reports on internet Sarah up until my new parents that started this month no one ever read my report - they just skimmed through it so when I started talking about how they can look at it on the web they looked as if why would they do that lol. I too would like Ofsted to come early!! Only because I'm moving in the new year, the new children are great and I know where I'm at here , if I move everything will no doubt be different as different county!!

When I first started minding we were inspected every year - you were told when the under eights (as it was then) officer was coming.
You also had a spot check in between your annual visits - so you were actually seen twice a year.
How going to 3 years or more between inspections is better than that I don't know.
If i were you Sarah I'd make a record of everything I'd done to improve since I was inspected to show the next inspector in 3 years time.
