..."update their records", ie am I minding, how many, what ages, am I related to any of them, do I mind in the school holidays etc. I am due for my first six month inspection this month, was this just a preliminary call?? Are they actually updating their records??? Will they come tomorrow unannouced??? Has anyone else had a call of this nature??? And I wasn't going to answer the telephone either, that's it, I am now incommunicado unless by E-mail. Has anyone else had a call like this one? ? Thanks, Donna

YES!!!
I had the same call beginning of August (6 months after my reg) & they asked me how many I'm minding, what hours etc, & then said an inspector will contact me soon to arrange an inspection.
Well I'm still waiting for that phone call, and I wish they'd hurry as the suspense is driving me mad!!!!!!!

Normally they should say we will be calling to arrange to visit!! Honestly once the've been you can relax again.
I narrowed it down because I am out here, then and this time ect so came when I could 'guess' when they were coming ;D

My friend was inspected last week & they told her it will be thurs at 9.30am! Atleast she knew exactly when there were coming.
One question they asked was "What is standard 13?". Off her head she didn't know what is was (child protection by the way) so make sure you know what they all are.

Asking what a standard is? - that makes it sound like you're sitting an exam not being inspected.
Don't panic Donna they usually narrow it down to a few days/sessions in a week when they know you'll be in.
You're very lucky if they give you a time and a date, although they sometimes say if they haven't arrived by 9.30 in the morning or 2.00 in the afternoon they won't be coming that day
Good luck Miffy

OMG now I am really anxious. I know that I still have so much that I want to do to get ready.
I want as much in place as possible, because three years until my next inspection seems such a long time to wait to improve my rating if I'm not very good this time.
Definately switching the phone off for a few months!!! (Although not very good for business I suppose)!!!

Good luck for when they do come. It took me ages to get any children i was just about to give up it took that long! As i was over due my inspection they decided to come out 4 weeks after i had started!!!! She phoned to ask if i had started on the day i started! and said she would give me a few weeks to settle in. I had to phone them at one point as mindee was ill and also had a day off. Well basicly they passed it on and the inspector phoned and agreed a date with me she said shell be there early. Which i prefered as you dont spend all day waiting. She came at 9. She must have been local as she recognised the church i got married at. You will do great. I have improved since i first started my son and mindee are well settled as am i now.

Donna believe me the new inspections are a lot better.
I used to get nervous when i had a visit from my network coordinator and i knew her so you can imagine what i am like about ofsted. My first inspection i was informed would be sometime in the next three months and then it got delayed and ended up being four months and I also told them I was out for 2 mornings a week. I knew the inspector was coming from Sheffield and didn't dare go out anywhere (oh how things have changed lol now they can wait for me lol). This time round inspector rang on Tuesday said sometime this week which meant either Wed or Thurs and turned up next morning. No time to sit and worry so much better.

I narrowed it down because I am out here, then and this time ect so came when I could 'guess' when they were coming ;D I too "narrowed it down" - I was out xxx days and I only had child xxx days over the course of the week she wanted to come and I narrowed it down to a particular day and she had already said that she could only do mornings all that week. It wasn't by design (but it will be in future ) its just how it happened.

I have also recently found out that there are "trial" inspections going on based on EYFS. You should get prior notice that is what they are going to be doing (prior to arrival).
Before everyone panics - your grading shouldn't be based on this though.
