I had a call from ofsted last wednesday night. I told them they are welcome to come but i didnt have any children through the day as parents wernt all back at college and uni for another two weeks but i was doing before and after school. She told me that she would come after school at 4pm and that i should understand i would only get a satifactory because she was only coming after school. I was really annoyed at this as i am a network childminder doing a DHC in childare and i have worked really hard and i do alot more than just a childminder who attends the courses they need to and just leave it at that. A new childminder being inspected after 6 monthes would only get that and i have been childminding for over 6 years. Also she said that when the last child goes at 5-45pm she would then look at my books. This is my family time i have 3 children one who is only 2 and he wants his tea at 6 which i think is understandable, then he has a bath at 7 and goes to bed. how bloooming long does she plan on staying? Does any one else ever been inspected after school please give any feed back, thanks

Is it worth ringing them back and asking for a delay until you have some children during the day??? It sounds desperately unfair otherwise..... Sarahx

This does sound really unfair. If necessary could you make up a 'forgotten' appointment or something to delay it a couple of weeks until college starts? To get satisfactory when you have done so much seems to be ludicrous

well i said i would prefere for her to come through day so she could see what i do, she replied saying that i could only get satisfactory anyway if she come through day, i said i understood that, but she then said havent i got photo's, i said yes, she just said well that will do. I think iv just ended up being last and she has to rush it through because she also added that she needed to get me done next week. So it looks like im hung drawn and quarted before she steps foot through the door.

That is so unfair. I hope someone else reads this thread and has been in a similar situation and can advise more. How frustrating.

i would write and complain to ofsted (as we now have a right to complain) and state that she has graded you without even seeing you i have heard that ofsted have targets to meet on all levels and that they are only allowed to give out an outstanding a certain number of times so if the minder before you got outstanding yet you were better its tough

This is totally unfair. Yes in theory you could get satisfactory but you know you deserve a higher grade as you put the work in. When I had my inspection she told me she wouldn't come after school as she didn't like travelling in the dark, as I only had after school children we waited two weeks for the holidays. She even told me the time she was coming. I'd see if you can put her off until you've got children during the day Carol xx

i think i'd have bad case of sickness and diarrhoea that week that will put her off, seriously though i'm sure you can just tell her that it's not convenient and that as you won't be working with under 5s you don't think it's fair that she comes then. if necessary go to her supervisor good luck though mandy xx

id like to thank all of you for your advise i will think about it over the weekend, i will have to think of a good excuse as i dont have anymore kids untill the 19th of sep and thats a new baby. so you can see how hard it is. I will probably just get it over and dun with and if i do get satisfactory i will challenge it, i just dont want to come across as a pain. I do have alot of evidence and all my paperwork is in order, i have just recieved my questinnaires back from parents and they were brill so lets hope and pray. I will let you all know the outcome thanks

I agree with everyone else this is very unfair. You shouldn't be forced into having an inspection after school hours and she should respect your finishing time.
I think you should contact Ofsted by phone and ask them to get the inspector to contact you again. If you can speak to her and she still refuses to delay the inspection then put a complaint in writing.
It might also be woth ringing NCMA if you're a member, and seeing what they advise.
I really hope you can get this sorted out

That is awful - sorry only just got round to reading this.
At my last inspection I was caring only for school age children, did not have any under 5's at all, yet I got a 'good' which at the time was the highest grade.
How can she say that you will only get satisfactory when she hasn't even seen you at work or your information etc? If she comes and you only get satisfactory then I would complain to Ofsted that it is unfair. They say that childminders should complain if they are not happy, so do it!!

Gosh, I'm flabbergasted by this thread. How unfair. I don't have any advice as not had an inspection but I do hope you can sort something out as this doesn't seem right to me.
Keep us updated. Susan x
