Hi Ladies, Ofsted inspector came yesterday morning. I had told her I would be out on Tuesday on a trip but it was cancelled due to the rain which I'm glad about as she turned up anyway! It went really well, I got three Oustanding's and two Good's. I only got good for Making a positive contribution as in my child's record books, I dont get parents to add comments, they take them home to read but I don't encourage them to write in them as well (I dont know any childminder colleagues that do this!) I got a good for organisation as the kids were playing in the playroom whilst I prepared the ingrediants to make Pizza but I kept checking in on them. The youngest was 2 years old which is my daughter and the inspector felt I should have kept her in the kitchen with me to keep my eye on her. I explained that as she is my child, I am aware of her capabilities and she is very bright and is able to play with the other children without constant supervision. I was a bit cross because if my baby mindee was present (on holiday) I would have sat her in the highchair with a snack whilst I prepared food so I would have probably got an Outstandin for that! Anyway, I'm really pleased with my results to say it was the summer holidays and I had 7 kids to look after. It's such a relief to know I aren't due another for 3 years! Thanks to all for your advice and help, especially Angel who is a star! Victoria x

Victoria that is fantastic news I knew you would do really well
I agree about your daughter being in the other room and I too would have more than likely done the same - and would feel a bit miffed about that - but you know these Ofsted inspectors they like to find fault with such petty things
I would forget about that though and concentrate on all the outstanding points etc
I know you got good advice from everyone here but when it came down to it it was yourself that did it all in the end so a very well done to you
Bet you are so glad it is all over
Hope you are ok anyway , hope to see you around soon
Angel xx

absolutely brilliant! Well done you! I think that she was a bit picky - it depends on the child and you know your child well enough surely?? And I don't get parents to write comments in child's book.... lucky if i get the monthly attendance forms signed! Like Angel says - focus on the good! and you've done good!! Sarahx

Well done Victoria a fantastic result i think some inspectors are so picky, when i had outstanding she wasn't picky at all with me parents don't write in my books i send home
my inspector told me 3 in 100 get given outstanding our childminding network co-ordinator said they can only give 3 in 100 childminders outstanding i don't know if this is true
You must be very proud of yourself

Is that true ?
Well that would be a bit unfair
Oh it is all so wrong

I've also heard they are only allowed to give so many outstanding grades. If true it is totally unfair as you could be the best childminder going but if they've already allocated the outstandings the highest grade possible is good.

Well done Victoria, unfair in my opinion about the record books but I've said my piece in another post!
it wouldn't surprise me about the 3 in 100 outstandings, it would be a way of keeping the numbers down on those that are given out. Totally unfair though.

Thanks for all you kind words Ladies, they are much appreciated.
Yes Lorraine I did have 7 children at the inspection, one of which was over 8. I normally have 10 kids in school hols (Including 4 over 8's) but they were on holiday so it could have been worse!
Just waiting for the report to be sent to me now, does anyone know how long it takes to come through and go online?

Well done...... ;D
Must say though i think its probably right about the 3/100 getting outstanding. When my hubbie has his appraisal every 6 months for his bonus, even though his works his a*^ off they can only give outstanding to 2 workers in his team out of about 25. So I suppose it could be the same with Ofsted.
Anyway...well done you
