........and you need to check on a sleeping baby, what do you do with the ther children you mind as you are not meant to leave them with visitors?
At the moment I have a baby & just my daughter so when I check on the baby I leg it upstairs when my daughter is busy so she doesn't follow me & wake the baby up, but if I had another child too & Ofsted where here I don't know if they would mark you down because you left a mindee with, basically a stranger.
What do you do?

Are Ofsted inspectors CRB cleared? If they are, wouldn't it be acceptable to leave a child/ren with them momentarily?

I really don't know the answer to this one. Babies here sleep downstairs in the study so I don't have the same issue.
Sorry can't be of more help.

On my last inspection i only had baby with me so no problem
but the one before 3 years ago i had baby and toddler i left him downstairs with the inspector she was fine with that
you can't keep draging a child upstairs every 15 mins to check on sleeping baby as they expect you to, it only takes seconds to check them. you could always point out that you wouldn't leave the child downstairs if any unchecked adult was in the house so they know you are aware.
Thats my point on it perhaps others think different

When I had my inspection a couple of weeks ago I had to go out to the car cos I had forgotten to get them ready for the inspector. I asked her if she minded watching them while I raced to the car and she was fine with it - must have been cos I got an Outstanding

I was told on my last inspection by Ofsted inspecter that it is fine to leave child with her while I made a drink as they are CRB checked. Whether this has changed since October is another question. Carol x Good luck for Wednesday.

When I had my inspection last September and I had to take a little one to the toilet upstairs I left the other 2 two downstairs with the inspector and she said that was fine.
Good luck

when you get a call from ofsted to say they are coming do they give you a date or a week that they will just turn up? really begining to worry now as mine will be due next few months, also how long do they usualy stay for??? do you offer them a drink or not? do you have everything to hand for them to look at or do they just ask you questions whilst you look after the children really nervous especially if i get the co* who did my application inspection she had me in tears at one point xxx

Hi Susan
Sorry you had a bad experience with the previous inspector - maybe you should have complained.
In our village minders have been phoned on a Friday by the inspector for a visit the following week, so at least it's over pretty quickly.
The average inspection seems to take about two and half hours. I'd get all your paperwork ready and give it to the inspector when they arrive then ignore them and carry on doing whatever you were doing with the children. Don't think that because they are not observing you directly they are not taking everything in - inspectors are specially chosen - they are all-hearing, all-seeing and often not from this world!!!!
I wouldn't offer a drink (I'm just mean) unless you are having one yourself say when the children are having a drink/snack.
I'm waiting for my inspection too - I don't answer the phone on a Friday any more.

Good idea Susan, not to answer the phone, don't think it would work though as Ofsted would probably sit outside your house watching you (got you scared now). You'll be fine. When I got inspected she wouldn't come after school (only had after school care) didn't like the dark. So I arranged for her to come 2 weeks later in school hols, she even told me what time. They are not supposed to, only give you a time span. As for long they are here well that varies , mine have normally been 2-3 hours. TRY NOT TO WORRY, THEY ARE ONLY HUMAN Carol xx
