Ok, so I've - updated my operational plan and cleared crap out of the folder - sorted out what i need to do for risk assessments - done my filing - made sure the parents info box & board are tidy & up to date - made a note to do something about my dressing up box before someone spots the carrier bags - got my first aid cabinet on the wall and made a list of contents - given parents 'are you happy with me' questionaire - done a personal evaluation and given myself a mixture of good & outstanding so I don't seem big headed.... while i know you're not psychic, is there anything else you always do when you know they who must not be named are coming? have you got notes showing the progress of your children? my inspector asked me about that this week. Also do you have a complaints log? there is one you can photocopy in the guidance to the national standards - a white a4 book with black writing on the front. I didn't know about this one so it is a recommendation for my next inspection. Most of all, don't get stressed and don't let the inspector trick you into not having your attention on the children, I was asked to show the inspector my paperwork indoors while the children were outside, I said i would need to stand near the door so I could still see them or I would bring the paperwork outside, she said I passed the test as they have been told to try and get your attention off the children

Wow Tammy - how sneaky is that! They shouldn't come and try and trick you! I'll be paranoid when I have an inspection now, thinking that everything is a trick!

I guess it is not really a trick but just to see how you would react in certain situations
A lot of people forget to get Ofsted to sign their visitor book or think there is no need - but there is a need so make sure you do that also
Also never give them a hot drink around the children - another mistake childminders tend to make because they forget about safety issues and try to act friendly to the inspector
Most of it is common sense anyway so no need to panic to much

I THINK IT MUST DEPEND ON THE INSPECTOR I PUT MYSELF AS OUTSTANDING AND SOME GOOD+ AND I GOT OUTSTANDING,
YOU HAVE TO SHOW THEM YOU KNOW YOU ARE DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB AT THE SAME TIME BE AWARE THAT YOU ARE LOOKING TO IMPROVE WITH TRAINING ETC

I think she forgot about it until near the end and then asked if i done it i showed and told her i put outstanding and 2 good+ as i am always looking at ways for improvement she said as I'm always looking at ways to provide a better service that is part of being outstanding.
You need to grade yourself at what you believe yourself to be and show ofsted how you achieve this throughout the time they are with you.
I just kept showing and telling her things. the best thing is take loads of photos of all the activities you do she loved my album and took lots of notes from it

She asked me why I had graded myself as outstanding, I said that their is always room for improvement...but I believed I met the criteria for outstanding - she obviously agreed because that's what I was graded! Tasha

i asked the older children to fill out a questionnaire and one 11 year old put me as mainly outstanding and one good when i showed it to the inspector she didn't even look at it just put it on top of the file and carried on i stressed that it was from a child but she couldn't have been less interested.

Hi guys thanks for your comments - Tasha - i have now got my insurance displayed (had other 2) - congrats on your outstanding - send some luck this way please! Angel - hmmmm nearly there! tammy - that was mean of her! I'll watch for that one thanks! Janet - oooo might do another one! After all the blooming work I've put in over the last year or so dragging myself into outstanding land it would be stupid to mark myself down ajs - you need a visitor book for eyfs - i've got one now so i'm ready - just date, name of visitor, reason for visit (if it's confidential then i put that), time in and time out. if parents want to know who's been in contact with their child, they can look & see Angel - i got some lidded cups from superdrug - she can have one of those! tastes really metallic out of it ha ha! thanks all again - flat spin time again as i start sorting the risk assessments into something like order in a folder! poor bfriend keeps looking at me beseechingly and suggesting scrabble and getting a rude reply!!! bless!! Sarahx

the fact that you can even spell beseechingly means you should play him a game of scrabble and you'll probably win
