I received my Ofsted registration a month ago and as of yet not childminding.
Ive been told by another childminder that they do a follow up visit shortly afterwards to give you your grading.
Im really worried, what if I havent got any kids by then, Ive been told that you might be graded down for that.
How long do they give you before they visit again? does anyone know.

hiya.
You will be contacted by ofsted (generally 4-6 months) after receiving your registration and they will ask then If you have any children on roll. If you do not then they will put the visit off until you do have children to mind. This is what happened with me, all I did was give them a call when I started minding and then they arranged to come and see me - simple as that really.
When they come to visit after you have contacted them, should you have no children on th eday they come, then you can be marked down for this as they cannot see you interacting with the children. Sometimes you can just be unlucky and the child may be sick the day they come etc... however, you should always contact them if you know a child will not be present on the inspection day as you can then put them off.
Sorry, thats was all a bit of a ramble but hope I answered your question.

Hi
I was going to ask the same question. I am so behind with the paperwork side of it that I don't really expect to be childminding before September/October. Like Sarah I was starting to get a bit worried that Ofsted would come round before I had any children! So thankyou for your comments banana (I assume that's not your real name) you have made me feel alot better.

They usually phone a week or 2 before to find out what your schedule is so they minimise the chance of coming on a day you don't childmind or are at toddlers etc.
Get a contact phone number/email so you can let them know if all the mindees are off sick, for example. And if they turn up on a day when you told them you don't have anyone I would say I'd got an appointment to get to (none of their business what but you are entitled to spend your day how you like - you might have the dentist/mot/visiting your mum etc) and ask them to come back at a more convenient time.
I've heard you can't get better than a satisfactory grade if you have no mindees. But you'll only find out if you can get a better grade with mindees present is if you have a mindee present!

Ofsted phoned me a couple of months ago and I said I didn't have any children and that I understood you couldn't get higher than a satisfactory without children present. She said it was 'not set in stone' but that you would have to lots of evidence of your previous work with minded children and that it would have to be quite recent. However, they would rather come when you have children and if you are newly registered then they would certainly put it off.
