Hi Bev
I have read your inspection report - well done.
I have to say I thought it was very unfair of her to put that especially as you had pointed out that it doesn't usually go there and she seemed to except that at the time. if I was you I would certainly consider ringing and trying to speak to her about it and maybe get it changed.
This seems to be a major problem that is cropping up all over the place at the moment - when the inspector comes and something is not where it usually is as the children are not in your care at the time even though the minders are explaining the inspectors are still pulling them up on it - to give you an example there is another minder on here who I know and she has already posted about this sort of thing
Her username is nannan - she had just moved and was decorating so had tins of paint under the stairs - the inspector noticed them as she explained that decorating and that of course when the children start back the tins would be removed. The inspector still logged them on the inspection report - I hope you don't mind me using you as an example Mandy.
So I think the best thing to do is to make sure that everything is in it's place exactly where it should be regardless if you have the child/children at the time of your inspection or not.

Well done on your report - it sounds really really good!!
What a shame that the inspector has put that in the report when you have quite clearly pointed out that it was not its usual place!!!
As Dee said though, they do pick up on EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still - you should be very pleased with your report! Well done

well done, it's a really good report. If it was me I think i would contact the inspector about the comments and ask her to explain why she had put it in the report when she accepted your explanation.

Hi Bev
I thought your report was really good
What a shame she had to pick on something so petty though
Like Dee says more and more of them seem to be doing this now It is like if they can not find anything wrong then they will find fault in another way It is so unfair because after all we are a home too
I do not think it will put parents off in the future to be honest so do not worry to much
I would though do what the others suggest and call them and ask why its been put in
Well done though the rest of it is very good
I do think Dee has hit the nail on the head though - Keep everything in its place regardless of if you have children there or not Of course though you are not going to do this all the time We are painting our hall at the moment and have brushes , paint tins here there and everywhere at the weekend but we do move them again when the children are here So if Ofsted were to come out on the off chance my home would be fine So be prepared if you do not have children around when Ofsted come out then make sure everything is still in its place

That is such a shame.
Does it mean that you must have safety gates up even if only minding 7 year olds? Because that would be the same wouldn't it? They could say that a baby would have access to the stairs!
I would certainly consider appealing against that, you would have nothing to lose would you, they can only say no.
Well done though on the rest of your report.

Hi all, no Dee it's not a problem mentioning me, I agree with what everyone has said, even if the little ones are not around, we need to make sure everything is seen to be how we are when childminding, It does seem if we are doing everything right, then the inspector will find something to put in there reports, (I feel that if there isnt anything to criticise us on the inspector must be thinking that she is not doing her job) As mentioned in earlier posts it would be nice if the inspectors were all singing from the same hymn sheet, and that they remember the inspection itself is hard enough with minding our little ones, being upto date with the relevant paper work, forms and policies and having it all on hand for them to see, answering their questions and having them coming in our homes and judging us without putting in their reports things that we have assured them is not in place when the children are here. Bev you should ring them and ask for either another visit or for them to remove the issue of the travel cot from you report Mandy

Don't be too disheartened Bev you report was brilliant.
I think it depend on who you get and what mood they are in....
A childminder I know had a green house with safety plastic (not glass) and the inspector said it was wonderful, the next inspection she had the inspector was someone different and told her to remove it as it was dangerous even though was not glass etc, she was gutted as the children loved growing plants and veg etc.
It's not quite the same I know but just wanted to add that.
I am sure that the parents you have now know how wonderful you are and word of mouth is everything isn't it. If a parent was to ask you about the bit in the report I'd explain and tell them why it was there and I'm sure they'd except your explanation, I WOULD.
I agree though with everyone else too, call ofsted and speak to someone, don't lose sleep over it.
Lots of love Susan x
