Here was me just going along minding my own business and then the phone rings ' im coming out to see you ' I was not expecting them to come out now, she said it would be 6 months after my pre reg visit - so that should be June!! Sneaky sneaky inspectors (although my inspector is lovely). Sp people who have recently had inspections - whats the main thing they focused on?? She told me she would be paying particular attention to my paperwork on this visit, my one concern here is does she mean my accounts aswell - because they are such a mess!! Im ordering a new account book as i've messed them up so badly so what happens with that? Surely my accounts arent their business are they? So, she is coming on Monday 16th, tuesday 17th or wednesday 18th next week. I have been so stressed for the last 2 hours, im making lists of stuff i want to have done, i've shouted at richard on the phone because I didnt feel that he was taking my panicking seriously enough, and i've got really teary cos I've started wondering of im doing everything right My paperwork is all ok i think - but I need to get it all filed properly! Birth to three - I want to look like im really clued up on this (Angel, im sure those threads you have done are going to be read and read and read by me ) Can someone also tell me what my first aid box should consist of? At the moment there are bandages, antibac wipes, and some dressings - what else? I know everybody stresses out and gets worried, my problem is stress affects me very badly and I know im not going to be sleeping much over the next week and then i'll be a mess on the inspection day. thanks in advance - and im going to back track and read as many threads on inspections as possible lana x

Hi I feel the same as you I am now waiting for them to call me , they did call me 1 month after I was registered but at that time I had no children to mind, I was thinking of giving them a call to say I am minding now. Only thing is my garden is a mess as we have been gutting the house of years of keeping things, plus we dismantled Scotts bed so parts of that are still in the garden. I will say good luck for next week and let us know how you get on.

I've got a list somewhere of the First Aid box contents that you should have. I'll get back to you with it. Definitely NO tweezers, creams or tablets. don't panic, you will be fine.

Sorry to jump on your thread but I was told we can't use plasters on the children, is this correct?

can someone explain the plaster thing - i dont get it?? I know we cant use them but why not?
have finished my list of what i want to do to the house - in a week - i think im kidding myself. There isnt anything wrong with it as it is but i just want everything to be just as I want it. Richard thinks im being unreasonable as i've only been childminding 4 months and I cant expect to have every single thing I want for the house in place. He keeps saying its a gradual thing building a business and if its all perfect right this second then I have nothing to work towards in the future??? Is he right?

I think he probably is right but I know exactly how you feel. I want everything right in the house before I am even registered never mind having done it for four months.
Can't help anymore than that I'm afraid having not been thro it myself yet but good luck and try not to get to stressed!!!

Hi Lana
From previous threads I get the impression that you know what you are doing and have policies and procedures in place.
You will be absolutely fine.
Good luck

Re plasters - I was told you can use plasters on children provided they are hypo-allergenic and you have discussed it with parents. Most children feel happier with a plaster even for the smallest cut and isn't the "care and well-being of the child" one of our top priorities?!
Re first aid box contents - this is the list I was given:
10 x hypo-allergenic sterile dressings (individually wrapped) 1 x Triangular Bandage 2 x Sterile eye pads 1 x Sterile covering (for serious wounds) 3 x sterile unmedicated dressing (medium) 1 x sterile unmedicated dressing (large) 1 x sterile unmedicated dressing (extra large) 6 safety pins Disposable gloves
No other items should be included at any time. Make sure sufficient quantities of each item are always available.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone has been told differently.

Hi
In all the years that I have been minding I have never obtained written permission specifically for plasters. Also I have never had an inspector ask me for it.
However having read this thread I am now going to get written permission to do so.
I think this is such a grey area and a lot of it really does depend upon what each individual inspectors interpretation is and what she is looking for.

No me neither Dee, it just seems now that you need permission for everything to cover yourself.
I couldn't believe that I had to have signed permission to walk children to school yet that is why they came so that I could take them there!!!
I think the administer first aid permissions form that we did should cover plasters or I could add the wording to it to be absolutely sure.

Had a meeting with my Network co-ordinator this morning. She said that inspectors are very hot on complaints procedures at the moment. She said if you didn't have one in place they will grade you inadequate.
I have a procedure in place but she had told me to look in the back of one of the revisions booklets that go alongside the national standards and copy the complaints form from there too.
Good Luck!

I know what you mean Pauline - it's like a few years ago when the major debate was permission to apply sun cream. Several childminders in our area were pulled up because they didn't have written permission to apply sun cream.
Surely logic dictates that when the sun is out it is necessary to apply sun cream (The same with administering first aid and putting on plasters) - but apparently a parent complained that sun cream was applied and the child was obviously sensitive to it which caused problems.
When we argued that surely sun cream is needed if the sun is out we (as an area) was advised not to administer sun cream unless we had written permission to do so.
This to me sounded ludicrous as we were effectively being told that it was ok to let the child burn to a crisp but would be considered as child abuse if sun cream was applied without prior consent! Needless to say we couldn't believe it.
As I have previously said I have never obtained written permission specifically for plasters but I am beginning to think it would be prudent to do so!!

That's right and I was told that it's ok to photo copy them for your own use Its also says that if you make your own complaints forms they must have all the same type of information. For those who missed the form, it is in the back of the Daycare and Childminding: guidance to the national standards - Revisions to certain criteria October 2005 Ref: HMI 2573

Be careful to check your bandages in your first aid box - they are all dated and out of date bandages/dresssings are not accepted. Do you have permission to adminster calpol? Permission is also needed to play in the garden/ on garden equipment

Just reading through all the things you must do/have and it says you must display the "Parents" Ofsted poster but I've realised that the phone number is out of date, you'd think they would have sent us updates.
Suppose we will just have to cross it out and add the new one.

make sure all your attendance book is up to date, i had 1 signiture missing and they pulled me for it Wow - I have NEVER got parents to sign for attendance, all Ofsted said was that it should show actual times of arrival and departure. They have always been happy with my attendance register (it's my own home made sheets)

"YES" SHE DOES". I WAS LOOKED AT A BIT STARANGE BUT THIS MUM WAS THE MUST PUNCTUAL EVER AND I DIDNT EXACTLY LOOK AT THE CLOCK FOR THE EXACT MINUTE OF ARRIVAL. ON THE TOPIC OF THE COMPLAINTS FORM DO WE KEEP HOLD OF THIS OR DO WE GIVE IT TO PARENTS XX

Complaints - just a quick question on this. I have a complaints procedure, and the relevant complaint forms - is that all they require with regard to it?? and that parents know how to complain - phone numbers, address of Ofsted (don't forget it's changed!) or to you - but that's all probably in your procedure. Hope it's tomorrow too so you can get it over with
