Do not panic - this is just about the new changes for children over 8 years
I just wanted to ask if any of you care for children over 8?
I do and at the moment they do not count on my registration
There are going to be changes from Sept 2008 I know it is a long time yet but I had my letter from them yesterday because they are going to phase in the voluntary part of the Childcare register before that time in mid April 2007. The letter says if I choose I can make an application to join the voluntary part of it if I have children over 8 years or if I intend to do so. It means you have to pay a separate fee in addition to our current registration fee and meet the requirements
I do not know yet how much the new fee will be
I will more than likely join in April was just wondering if anyone else was going to do so?

I've had this letter too, I assume they will go to everyone eventually.
You'd think they would say how much the charge is would'nt you?!
Doesn't seem fair though that you have to pay twice, surely one payment could cover all your children.

I heard about this via my linkworker the other day.
I care for over 8's and i'm really interested in finding out what this entails.
There's not much info online about it until April.

got my letter about this the other day, although it doesnt affect me at the moment its made me a bit angry to be honest. seems like another company jumping on the bandwagon of ripping people off. - why bring it in now, im sure its going to make ofsted a nice little ( sorry enourmous ) boost in their profits. would like to hear their reasons for justifying this decision thats all.

I was told today just one of the reasons they are doing this is because at the moment you do not have to count your over 8 year olds so the parents can not claim tax credit
This is not true though because the little girl I have she is 10 and started with me when she was 8 and her mom has always been able to claim using my registration number
It does not really make sense does it
It is not very fair either paying twice
We will know more next month and about the cost !
You may not be looking after over 8 year olds now , but just think in a few years time the children you have may still be coming to you and they have to grow up don't they ? So I guess it will affect all of us really
