Oh My gosh a lady has rang saying she will come to do my first Check since registering she would like to get it done before firday.
She advised me it would be tomorrow and I do not have any children Thursday so it looks like either Weds afternoon or Friday.
I have got butterflies.......................
I have got all my stuff Sorted I think but she mentioned I should have all my evidence as well for her to look at.
What exactly do they need I have typed some notes up on how the children have developed since being with me and have started a scrap book and kept some of the pictures and drawings this count.
I'm so scared how do I know if I am doing what she expects when she is here !!!!

Hi, I had my first visit end august, and she was really nice, you need to remember to relax, look after the children and answer her when the children are occupied lol!! Luckly we were doing art and craft making bday cards for a mc's brother and my little boy was playing nicely on the floor for a change, so the girls were busy doing there thing with chat from me so I could talk to ofsted lady I had everything i have got in pile so when she asked for it I gave it all and she used wht she wanted and put the rest to one side. Amoungst this was ~ ~ My portfolio - this is what i show my parents at the first meet including all copies of regisrtation cert, public insurance, first aid cert, icp cert, motor insurance, mot and crb, abit about me, and then all my polices - aim, admissions & Departures, Absences, Enrolment, Settling in Smacking & Smoking, Child Protection, Confidentility, Potty/Toilet Training, Medication/medical emergencies/sick Child, Home Risk assesment, Hygeine, Equal op, Fire/ Scold safety & Prevention, Fees, payment, hours, supplies, working with parents, diet and meals, General Safety, House Rules and complaints ~ Folder with all my contract's together and all the same all info and everything filled in ~ Accident Book - I have the NCMA one so far i have not had to use it, but she did comment that I had not filled in the 2nd page Your emergency Plan and getting parents to sign medical assistance ~ Attendence Register - all up to date with the kids signed in and out - I also read that they are imperessed if you have a book with the parents signing the kids in and out but they don't expect it ~ I also have a parents pack which has all my policies from my portfolio and also some children's info forms for them to fill in for my records i.e likes dislikes, toys games, etc ~ I also have a very basic weekly planning sheet it's just an A4 sheet split in to day's and, Before school, Morning, Afternoon and After School and then just a basic idea of what toys they are to play and if a specific activity is happening that way i have an idea of what we'll be doing and also evidence that we have done something lol She was impressed with all my documents as they answered alot of her questions without having to disturb me Sorry I seem to be going on and on I hope this is helping, I remember being so nervous but when she was here it was so relaxed and nothing to get nervous about. She looked around the house again and asked general questions about the house, I have hooks next to all the doors so if you have done anything like that point it out to her as the more you tell her the better the grade you can get I hope this helps sorry it's so long Good Luck Becky

Becky is so right, you must point out anything you think important. Don't wait hoping they will notice make sure you draw things to their attention that you have done. If, for instance you have put cupboard locks, point them out saying why you have done it, this way they can see that you plan ahead and think through dangers etc. You were on holiday for the last Childminding Group meeting. someone there had had a pre-registration visit and been told that you MUST have a policy on physical contact and how the children with be touched. I'll post a sample on the members area so if you haven't got one you can copy it if you like - so can anyone else for that matter. Remember that the inspector will be using the 5 outcomes for her grading: 1. Helping children to be healthy 2. Keeping children safe 3. Helping children enjoy and achieve 4. Helping children make a positive contribution 5. Organising your childcare effectively with those in mind think how you can show or prove that you meet them. (Feel free to ask for ideas if you are stuck in any areas) for example to meet 1. you could say how you keep your setting clean and use antibacterial wipes to minimise spread of germs, wash toys regularly, have a sickness policy. Or you could talk about your first aid certificate, healthy eating, how you use the local park for exercise etc. Show her any individual wash cloths or towels you have. If the children use the toilet while she is there make sure she hears you talking to the children about hygiene and why they should wash their hands etc. Good luck, ask away with more questions if necessary!

We were busy playing when she arrived, she was here over 3 hours and My mindee had his snack and lunch but he feel asleep eating his dinner (bless) as he was a bit tired but he was really good all morning. I am glad it is over BUT a big thank you for all you're support and the comments you made just needed to relax and go with the flow. Thanks again San

You should be very proud to have got a 'good' on your first inspection. I think it was Becky who said that the inspector told her that very few new minders got more than satisfactory at their first.
Our new member 'chicken lady' might like to hear how you have found giving up work to do minding as she is doing the same.
