Hello
Not sure what everyone else does but I charge my normal hourly rate and do not charge different for dropping and picking up from school
I am going to move this into the fees and charges section you will get more response there

I don't charge extra as my children go to the local school (and will be for the next ten years or so). This is the only school I can pick up from and as I do the school run every day I don't feel it appropriate for me to charge extra.

In your opinion does it make the parent more inclined to turn up later rather than sooner? Does that make sense? I doubt I will ever provide before school care as the Welsh Assembly provides free breakfast at school from 8am so most parents utilise that. Amanda xx

My Before School service opens at 8 am unless by prior arrangement. Parents know I leave the premises at 8.45 for the school run. If they are running late they have further to run!
After School. Some turn up at 6 but to be honest I have some of the best Parents and all of them turn up early sometimes but most collect between 5.15 and 5.55. Very rarely do I have any that consistently turn up dead on because they wanted to do some shopping (although they occasionally do) Most who are dead on 6 work until 5.30 and are running to get here on time.
Because I have some smashing Parents and they often pick up early - I do the give and take bit - and when they are a little late because of something unexpected (They telephone) then I enjoy that mindee's company for an extra few minutes on their own!!
I recognise that I have been very fortunate with the Parents I have 'acquired'. They are brill. Long may it continue!!

i do not charge for school runs I charge from the time they come out of school or the time school starts. Probably not making much sense sorry.
I charge a minimum of 3 hours a day for school age children at a slightly higher rate. A school age place is £4 an hour so a minimum charge of £12 a day. A place is 8-9 before school and 3pm pick up from infants and 3.15from juniors.
If they need the place longer than 2 hours after school then they pay for the extra tiem at £4 an hour. The three hours can be split before and after school hours (hope that makes sense) .
I do not drive so have a 20 mins walk to school and the same home again.
If I drove I would not charge extra bit i am awar of a childminder locally who charges £5 for each pick up and drop off so if you did both then that would be an extra £10 on the bill.
If you decide to charge extra for pick ups etc then I think that you cannot use the 40p per mile in your accounts (not sure on that though so someone else may be able to tell you if you can)
