Hi,
I am just deciding on what to do about my fees. I have arranged what i am charging hourly etc but i wondered how most people get paid? do you set up standing orders or get paid in cash? and do you ask for it in advance? are we supposed to send out invoices? what do you do if they dont pay on time etc?
any help with this is very appreciated thanks Louise x

The bulk of my parents pay by direct bank transfer monthly, another two parents pay by childcare vouchers busy bees and accor. I have one more who pays by cheque and another who pays cash weekly.
However it is always in advance or on first day of minding. Touch wood no one has been late with a payment so far.
Not sure this has helped you, but hopefully someone else will join in.
Good luck xx

I always ask for payment in advance. In my case i get the parents who pay monthly to pay on the 1st of the month (or there first care session after that date)
Parents who pay me weekly pay on monday morning, one pays by cheque and the other cash.
One of my new parents was late paying her bill and i charged her £5 per day it was late. it ended up putting £30 onto her bill and she wasn't impressed but i mean to start as i want to go on.
I give invoices out in plently of time so parents know what is due, i also give receipts when i receive money and keep a copy of the invoice and receipt for myself.
hope that helps Jen

I have one parent that pays me monthly at end of month by Bank Transfer which i issue her an invoice in the second week of that month. 1 parent pays me weekly by cheque on the Monday and 1 who pays me cash weekly on the Friday. Again its really upto you and what you agree with the parents. These days everyone gets paid differently so i so it to suit their needs. At then end of the day i still get paid on time.

I get paid monthly or weekly in advance. I always invoice the parents over the weekend so they have it for the first day they are in the setting no excuses.
The invoices I print two off one for parent one for my records. When paretn pays me I give a receipt and then write on my copy of the invoice i write the number of hte receipt and which receipt book it is from eg 79 (5) receipt number 79 in book 5

I offer parents the chance to pay me weekly or monthly in advance. I also have one who has chosen to pay me for a term at a time (in advance).
Some parents pay me using childcare vouchers (Accor and BusyBees), others pay directly into my bank account and some by cheque or cash. So long as I get paid when I want it I don't mind how. I produce invoices for everyone and receipts for those that want it (a couple don't so I just write a thank you in their contact book).
However you're paid, I'd get everyone to pay in advance.

Hi louise
I get paid in advance, 3 parents pay me monthly (one via vouchers) heres the tricky one, I have 3 children of the family, 2 boys and a girl, Mum and I have decided to work the full year out and divide it by equal weekly payments, otherwise she would have a huge bill during the holidays.....going to work that out today eeeek xx

Hi Louise
That is ok working it out over the year but I had a parent that did that and they didn't stay the whole year so I actually lost out.

I'm monthly in advance, payment by 2nd of the month (or next working day) and mainly get cheque or cash. To which receipts are given ( in line with my contracts) I charge £5 per day late payment and will not take the child ;D lol only happened once

My full timers pay by standing order into my bank on 1st of each month ( ie worked out full years fees and divided by 12) but this way you need to do a statement at end of each month to keep track of who is in debit/credit (much like gas/elec DD) so it can be fiddly but at least we all know we are paying/receiving a regular amount each month. I ask for payment for any extra hours at end of month though so it doesn't build up.
Rest pay by cash or cheque monthly in adv.

Hi all.
I either get paid weekly or monthly in advance in cash. A couple of my parents though only pay for the exact amount of hours that i have their children eg; 12.30-3.30 is 3 hours. I agreed to this early on after my reg came through as i was keen to get business now i regret it as i think i could be getting paid for 4 hours eg; 12-4 (simple i think !!!!!). Am i thinking on the right lines here and if so do you think it would be ok to alter this in the new year, stating that all part hours used must be paid for as a full hour. I'm not increasing my fees in the new year as ive only been registered since July 2007 so this could compensate a little for that. Hope thats all clear. Lynn xx
