at the time we went through the contract we discussed that the mother may pick up the child up to 15 mins early however a 2.30 pick from granny is turning into 2.00 and the other night she called and said the granny was picking the child up at 2.30 as she had the afternoon off it was ment to be 5 pick up. Would you charge them contracted hours? As i have a feeling this is going to be a habit !!!!!

hi ya
you charge whatever the contracted hours are - it is up to the parents/ granny to pick him up early or at the contracted time but if this becomes a constant habit then maybe you need to re arrange the hours.
thats what i do i charge up to whatever i have in the contract at the end of the day you are providing a service and should be paid for what has been agreed

Hi I totally agree, I would charge the contracted hours as you are still available even though they are'nt using the service.

absolutely I agree. The contracted hours are there for a reason and you should charge for any extra over that as long as they have been agreed in advance. She shouldn't expect extra hours at the drop of a hat

If the parents want to collect their kids early then thats up to them. I have one mum at moment where I dont know if im coming or going with her as she keeps coming early but i stick to the contract and have no hassle in getting paid.

I agree with the others - charge for the contracted hours.
If early pick-ups become a habit and they want to renegotiate the contract you may need to charge for a minimum amount of hours as you won't be able to fill the child's place for a few odd hours - parents don't always realise this.

Definately charge for contracted hours.
I always point this out to parents, if collected early, don't attend for any reason then contracted hours payable.

Recommend putting in contract eg, Fees are not reduced where the child is dropped off later than the agreed start time or collected earlier than the agreed collection time.
NB it goes without saying that you can add an extra charge if they arrive earlier than the drop off time or collect later than the agreed collection time. I do waive this extra charge for a "first offence" or very occasional occurrence for parents who regularly collect early.

Hi Jenni
Everyone else gave good advice - full payment for the contracted hours however early they decide to collect child
Meant to ask is it a bit of a pain the child being collected early - does the parent always let you know in advance ? What happens if you are out or in the middle of painting or some sort of activity that could be a little annoying
Otherwise if you have no problem with it - enjoy working for less hours for full pay
Good luck
