Hi everyone, I have a 7 year old boy after school , 5 days a week. 14 1/4 a week. He's only been with me 3 weeks but his mum has turned up tonight and said i dont need to pick him up tomorrow or Friday as her older son will pick him up! I normally charge for dinner and petrol costs but im not sure what to charge for this week! Would you charge for all week, how much notice do you ask for? As I only have him 14 1/4 hours should I still ask for 4 weeks notice. Also has anyone had payments paid by the Jobcentre? On the first week the mum asked me to fill in a form from the jobcentre, she said they were paying the first week for her as part of an incentive to get back into work but as yet I havent received anything.!! I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this and knew how long it takes to get paid, look forward to hearing from you .

Hi
Cannot really help much with the jobcentre payment never heard that one, but the mum still has to pay you even though you don't have to pick him up for those two days as you are still contracted to do so. So are you saying now that you do not have to pick him up at all now, so is she giving you notice or not?
Let us know.

Hello Queenie
I agree with Lorraine the parent must still pay even if the child is absent for whatever reason - did you make that clear in the contract ?
I am also a bit unsure what you mean - is she giving notice or do you want to give her notice - or do you think she is going to be doing that ? It would be 4 weeks anyway
Job centre - I have a parent at the moment who is on this get back into work scheme Job centre pay in arrears - they sent a letter for me to sign and confirm the hours that I have worked They are a bit slow but they do usually pay - just be prepared to wait

Hi all thank you for your response. About the notice , I just meant how much notice for occasional days off would you need. The mums signed the contract which explains payment for child's days off I was just wondering if anyone did anything different depending on the hours the child is with you!

My moms usually give me a few days notice
If it has been an unexpected reason though like a doctor or dentist appointment they have given me notice for the child not coming on the same day but early in the morning I have not got a problem with this
But if we were going out for the day during holiday times I would expect more warning if possible
You could always say she must give you 24 or 48 hours notice
Your business your rules

Whatever you charge when the child is with you - would still apply when the child is not there
She has booked those days with you - he is contracted to be there It is not your fault that she changed her mind
So full fee is to be paid
Just make sure this is in your contract
Parents must pay full fees if child is absent for whatever reason !!!

I would not charge for petrol on the days they are absent as you have not incurred any costs for the journeys you now do not have to make.
With meals, I don't charge if they have told me at least a week before that a meal is not required (eg dentist appointment, annual holiday etc) but I have charged when I've had less than a week's notice. Eg last week I got a phone call at 11 am to say mindee would be collected earlier than usual by grandma and wouldn't need a dinner. They still paid for dinner cos I had bought the ingredients, planned and started preparing it. So I consider I'm entitled to charge for it.
One of my mindees has been absent nearly every day this term, for a variety of reasons. As per my contract they have paid full fees. I do say that I will waive the charge if I am full and have been able to give their place to another child (eg while mindee is away on annual holiday I might be able to provide cover for another childminder). ie, I don't charge 2 families for the same place.
No idea about payments from Job Centre. I would have asked the parent to pay me and get the Job Centre to pay them back. As its the parents who have signed the contract it is their responsibility to ensure payment is made on time, regardless of whether they expect to pay it from tax credits, employer, their salary, savings, bank robberies (lol) ....
