hi all. in my contracts i state that i still charge if mindee is ill but if i or my family are ill and i do not look after them i don't charge. when would you all expect to be paid? i have a bot 1 day a week and mum pays on the day i have in in advance for following week. but has phoned tonight to say he will not be at mine this week as he is ill. should i expect them to still drop money in on the day its due or let them pay next time he comes? bearing in mind that the following week he is on Holiday. and the day passes mine on the way to and from work? your advice and views welcome as not sure what to do Claire

Hi
I would except them to drop the money around especially if they are away the following week. I would give the mum a ring and ask if you could please drop your money round.
Let us know how you get on.

I would expect the money to be dropped off at some point but I would also be taking into account that if the child is ill the parent may not be in a position to bring the money round with a sick child in tow. To be honest if they offered to come round I would probably say i'd accept it when the child comes back, cos im a bit of a softie sometimes and would be thinking if it was me and I couldnt get the money to my childminder and my child was ill I'd hope they would do that too.
But thats just me x

I think it is a bit of a tricky one and actually agree with both Lorraine and Lana
If they were away the following week I would expect payment before they went and would tell them that
I think you have to decide yourself what the parent is like also
I know some of my parents are brill and I would not mind waiting but a few would prob try to get out of paying it
Nine times out of ten though if a child is ill I do wait for them to come back before having the payment
In your case I would prob give them a call - I would not give them an option I would just ask " Them to pop the money in before their holiday because late fees will apply if they are late "
Do you have anything about late fees in your contract ?

Sorry just re-read that, If the dad passes by daily then he should be able to drop the money in without a problem. So i would ask that it is paid before they leave for holiday

thank you for the replys.
i thought the same as you if child is ill wait till they get back but dad passes me on the way to and from work so it would not be a problem for him to pass it in. and yes they would try and get out of paying it. as awhile back child was going to be off and i said as per our agreed contract i still charged and she wouldn't have it so sent him. and i also pointed out that when they go on holiday their fee still appilies as per contract and she said we would talk about it nearer the time. like what is thier to talk about,we agreed this in the beginnning. i dont charge when i am off sick or on holiday claire

definitely get the money for when he has been off and for teh holidya in advance if the mother 'wants to talk about it'. As you said, what is there to talk about. Don't let them mess you about its not fair - you have bills to pay too.

Claire - I agree with Mel - you should have the sick day and holiday pay in advance.
There is nothing to discuss here it was agreed at the start so stick to your guns.
Good luck

hi all. thank you for your replys. well the boy i have one day a week came to me as he was feeling better. and mum paid me for next week and should have paid me for the week after that,as she pays me a week in advance. so she paid me on the 20/9/07 for the 27/9/07 and on the 27/9/07 she should have paid me for 4/10/07-25/10/07 as she now wants to pay me mthly. but she never gave me a post dated chq as she will be on holiday when fee's are due she said she will put a chq in the post and quickly left. they leave to go on holiday on sunday so i wrote a letter saying that if she wants to pay me mthly fee's will be due no later than the 1/10/07 for that mth. when i see her next i will get her to sign a piece of paper stating that she will pay me on th e 1st of the mth for that mths fee or should i re do a new contract to thke this into account or will a sined statement be good enough to cover me? thank you claire

Hi Claire
do you want to be paid monthly???
it seems this parent is making the choice for you.
I think you're right to say she will have to pay a month in advance if she wants to pay monthly.
I would re-do the contract.
