if you are to be an emergency contact for the little girl during school times then i would charge a full day, if not i would charge 3 and a half hours at whatever you rate is
if school term contract only i charge a 50% retainer fee for school holidays ( thats 50% of the weekly fee per week of school time off)
hope this helps
it is up to you though as we are all self employed and run our businesse's differently xxx

I charge for a breakfast session (£4 for 8-9 am, double time before 8am) and an after school session (£12 til 6pm), reduced to £15 per day if both sessions same day. I do not charge while they are at school unless the child is not yet 5 and attending less than 10 sessions a week (ie, still taking up an under 5 place).
I don't agree to be an official emergency contact - I don't care for sick children and IME its D&V that is the major reason for needing to be collected early and you have to ensure you don't put any other mindees at risk.
Its fair to charge while a child is at preschool because the child is then taking up one of your valuable under 5s places and you can't use the place for another child. Personally, I do not charge for an over-5 while at school though - they are not preventing me from caring for other over-5s as they are ALL at school as well.
If I did agree to be an emergency contact I would not charge for school hours except where I had collected and provided childcare for the child. In which case, the inconvenience of having to abandon current activity (which may be an outing, meal or naptime) would probably justify rounding up the charge to a full day or half day.

susan do you mean you would charge for a full day every day, even though you might never have to collect during school hours? Or you would charge for a full day only on the day(s) you collect during school hours?
