hi i wont be registered for a while as i'm waiting for crb and the inspector to get her finger out ( long story) but i have been approached to have a little boy aged 2 full time which i was extatic about and beacuse it turns out shes a friend of my aunties she's willing to wait. she now says that because hes currently with his nan she wants to 'wean' him off her and just put him with me thurs and fri to see how things go this is fine by me but she hasent been specific in how long this will last before going full time now as soon as i'm registered i want to advertise and fill my places asap, but if i'm holding open the mon,tue and weds i'm losing money i was told to do a full time contract and just charge half fees for the first three days but as this will envetually lead to a full time position i dont want to scare her off lol does that sound stupid so i was wondering if anyone had advice on what they would do in this situation. thank you

I don't have any advice as not been in the situation. I'm sure the other ladies/gents will be able to offer help.
Welcome to the Forum.
Look forward to chatting with you. Susan x

I think you need to ask her how long she sees the process of 'weaning' off nan taking. You will need to explain to her that she is obviously taking up one of your places and therefore if this is going to be long term, you cannot hold onto the place forever. It is hard especially when you are starting out but you need to be able to fill your spaces.I hope you manage to sort it.
Look forward to chatting again. Mel x

Yes you need to know how long before she wants you full time and then see what to do if you start filling up quickly then i would ask her to start to pay you a retainer if she wants you to hold a place,

Personally I would start off as I mean to go on and be really professional about it all - you've set your fees so stick to them! You're still doing a day's work, it doesn't matter what the background is.... Good luck! Hope Ofsted pull their finger out! Sarahx

Hiya
Personally if I were you Id explain the situation, and say that I would not charge a retainer for say the first couple of weeks, but explain that if she wants the full time space she would have to provide extra funds to ensure the space was there, like you say you dont want to scare her off, especially with it being a full time mindee, but you have to think that this is your business xx

Hi Kelly
Welcome to the forum
I would do what Sarah suggests and start the way I mean to go on - it could cause you so many problems in the future if you do not
It is worse when it is a friend or a friend of someone who knows you - these could be the worst type as I am sure the others will tell you
Stick to your guns - after all your doing a days work whoever it is
Good luck
Angel xx

unforunatly no i'm still waiting for her to get back to me, but have considered everyones advice and will put it all to good use when she finally does come back, i did ask my auntie when shes gonna contact me and she said she just wants me to put his name down for when i do get registered i told her it dosent work like that as soon as cert comes i'm advertising and if places start filing and she hasent contacted me i will just carry o filling them so i need her to contact me herself, but i did ask her to put it more politely lol

at least you have your aunty who could tell this lady how it is. I don't think parents understand sometimes that you can't put the whole world on hold for them.

It's reallt hard knowing whats best! I pesonnaly would charge retainer to hold the space open if not I would fill it.
Agree with you on not holding out for 'when you get cert through' tell everyone your a childminder and you'll be surprised how quickly your name will get passes around HTH
