Hello paents of little boy i will be minding from sept droped retainer fee round 2nite and they just said they had one question which was is my holidays knocked off of amount. becoz you see i worked it out on a yearly basis so it the same amount each month rather than payer more one month or less etc. And to be honest i completly forgot about it when working fees out so much to think about argh!! so i didnt really have much time to think when they come round and said well its up to you can change monthly amount or not pay on my holiday weeks but they wanted to go on reduced amount monthly and now i have been thinking that means i will have to take full 4 wks holiday now or i will lose money and although i state im entitled to 4 weeks i wasnt sure if would take full amount im rubbish with maths anyway this is going to be the most tasking part for me the fees and accounts paper work. So i will have to leave it now i have told them but just wondered how everyone else works holidays ??

I don't charge for my holidays because the parents will have to pay another minder.
The problem with working out the years fees and dividing it by months, like you have done, is what happens if you are ill or decide on some extra days holiday etc? it could get complicated on refunds.
I would leave it as it is now, explain that you might not take the full 4 weeks holiday so you can't work it out now. It isn't going to drop the monthly fee that much and if they get a free week or two they will feel even better off!

I agree with Pauline
I do not charge for when I am on holiday - they may have to get another minder or they may have to take unpaid holiday from work so I do not charge them
I think you should leave it for now
But personally I would never work out my money for the whole year
I just do it on a weekly or montly basis I find it less complicated that way
You will learn along the way though Stacie it is no big deal and when you are starting out there is a lot to remember
You seem to be doing ok so do not worry about it

Most of my parents pay me monthly
They pay it at the start of their 4 weeks depending on when they start - it is always paid in advance They also have to pay their holiday in advance too I make this very clear

Most of my parents pay me weekly, but I do give them the option of paying monthly if they prefer. Works out as more receipts issued weekly, but I prefer weekly as I find the maths easier, so I don't mind! I always get two weeks fees as a deposit and am paid in advance Tasha

i agree with the other ladies, i wouldnt work it out yearly it does tend to complictae things.
all my parents pay me advance monthly, i prefer it this way but would take it weekly if someone preferred.
i give them an invoice in plenty of time, around the 25th, for the following month and the invoice simply states how many sessions the following month and how much.
i dont charge for my holidays but full price for their holidays.
if i have to have any time off sick for me or my children i would just deduct it from the following month, likewise if i do any extra hours i just add it on to the following month.
there are no right or wrong ways its down to the individual to find out what suits them and the parents.

Hi I did that once worked out for the whole year and in the end I lost out because they didn't stay for the whole year, so now it is weekly or monthly. It is so hard when it comes to things like this. Lorraine xx

They could be paying less per week/month due to the average but then leaving before you had the full years worth.

I've got some that pay the exact fee due (I invoice them each month) and a couple that do standing order/online payments for 12 equal monthly payments.
I worked out their payment based on 48 weeks at full fee and 2 weeks half fees (xmas & easter) and 2 weeks £zero for my holiday. One family don't use the holidays so we worked it out at 39 weeks at full fees and 11 weeks at half fees, 2 weeks £zero.
Because of the need for adjustments (when arrangement ends/if I close for sickness/if they want extra hours or need to pay late collection fees etc) I do a statement each term showing the fees due and what they've paid. So its clear if they are in credit or debit in which case I bill or refund or we agree to carry it forward to next statement if its not very much owed. And now I've got everybody to pay at time of booking if they want any extra hours.
I find this a real PITA so I'm not going to offer this option to any new clients!
