What happens if, say for example you take on 3 children, 2 of whom go to school all day and one of whom goes to nursery all day (just an example) and you are ony required to take them and pick them up? You will hardly be getting an income because obviously you will only be paid for the times you are taking them and picking them up wont you? And tehnically you wont really be working because ou will be at home on your own with your own children.
Told you it was a silly question! Can someone please help?

It is not really a silly question
I know what you mean
A lot of childminders though are grateful at first even if they do only get these " part timers " because it is still getting you known and a little money is better than none so to speak
It could also give you more income during school holidays because then you will more than likely look after the children then ( make sure you ask them all this when they come to see you at the interview )
Nursery children only usually do a few hours anyway so you charge still whilst they are there So in other words you charge the same as any other child from when they arrive at your house to when they go home
Does that help ?

hi Angel
Thanks for that. So i still charge for nursery children for the hours they are at nursery? Do all childminders do this? Id better change a bit in my contract in that case!! So its just when children are at school that you dont charge? Does it work the same with playgroup as it does with nursery? lisa xx

I used to have a child at 8 till 3
He was at nursery 9 till 12 so i only charged for the time he was here before and after nursery
Everyone here gave me the advice that you should charge because you would still more than likely be the child's emergency contact and say if nursery was closed due to bad weather or anything the parent would expect you to have them then. I think all childminders do charge yes and I do now thanks to advice on the forum It could also stop you having another child it would be unlikely that you could get a child to fill the space whilst the other child is at nursery
There are some more posts in the forum about this if you look I am sure it was myself that started one I will see if I can find it
You do not charge when children are at school
