I am starting up as a childminder and 2 of the children I will be minding will be at nursery for 2.5 hours a day, but I will be 'on call' for them. Do I therefore charge for this time? Please give me your view.

Hi Kat Welcome to the forum, Im in the process of registering and am a fairly new member here, ive found everyone here lovely ;D very helpful and friendly
Are you dropping at nursery and picking up? therefore defo charge atleast a retainer fee as you would be unlikely to take on other children in that 2 1/2 hours.......some CM would charge full price, especially because you are on call
interested to see what eveyone else says xxx

Hi Kat
Welcome to the forum it is nice to meet you
I also asked this question a while back if you look at some of the old posts
I never did charge if children were at nursery due to the fact that I always seemed to have another child to mind whilst the children were at nursery
Due to some of the advice on here though I would now always charge if a child was at nursery if they expect you to be "on call " as you put it then you should get paid for it
I think most childminders do charge their full rates too
Good luck with the childminding and hope to see you around again soon
Angel xx

Hi Kat and welcome Yes do charge the full rate while they are at nursery because you cannot take anyone else on during that time so would therefore lose money if you were not paid. Good luck with your minding, look forward to chatting with you more.
