Hi everyone! I've been searching high and low for positive information about people living with disabilities and I've finally tracked this site down which seems really helpful. Don't know if anyone else is interested but just in case you are I've put a link on: www.abilityvsability.co.uk/component/optionLorri x

It's amazing isn't it, it's practically impossible to find positive stories, pictures or information about this subject. I'd never really thought about it before but it must be so infuriating if you are a disabled person yourself to not be represented favourably at all - anywhere!

I've just found this site too which is trying to encourage the use of pictures and storylines involving disabled children/adults. It's got some good information and images. www.childreninthepicture.org.uk/index.htmLorri x (Jenn - it must be upsetting when people ignore your husband. I do think that if more people with impairments were represented in every day tv programmes; on the news, in soaps, etc it would be so much easier. Maybe your hubby should keep clearing his throat really loudly and waving!!)

I have a book called don't call me special...actually I would recommend the whole range. I can't believe people ignore your hubby (well I can but you know what I mean)...pure ignorance & rudeness! Infuriating. I would carry a loud speakere& blast them with I'm in a wheelchair ....NOT INVISIBLE!!! Or are YOU blind?!!! If I were your hubby! Tasha

I have got the book 'Don't call me Special' and it is really good but I want something more subtle than something all about someone with a disability if you see what I mean.
Something with a mixture of different people that might lead to conversations but nothing about a particular topic.
Hard to explain what I mean!
I think what I might do is a scrap book just all about people and have lots of different people's photos in there all jumbled up and just say - find me someone who you think is happy, find me someone in a blue top - bla bla bla and let the mindees see people as people not as someone from a particular country or with a particular disability and see what comes of it.
What do you think?

Great idea about scrapbook.
Think I have a spare book that needs filling.
Jen, you and Gary are an inspiration to others.
It is ignorance that makes people rude but Gary or yourself shouldn't have to endure it.
