As some of you know I had my pre-registration visit on Tuesday. The lady told me that before I could be approved for overnight childminding I would need to have a fire safety officer visit my home to give it the all clear.
I have just contacted the relevant people and my name has been put on a list for this.
Has anybody else had to have this done? What does it involve?

Apparently in our town they dont bring the fire engine I didn't have to have a fire safety inspection to get registerd although I do have a very comprehensive fire safety policy and an evacuation plan. I do monthly fire drills too which the children love!

I haven't had the same kind of visit as I'm not registered for overnight care. I have had a visit from a Fire Officer who replaced all my fire alarms and added an extra one. He didn't bring a fire engine but he parked on the drive and set the emergency light flashing which got the mindees all excited.
He wasn't very hunky but he was very nice. For hunky you're better off arranging an "educational" visit to take your mindees to the fire station. I got to dress up in the firemans clothes and the kids got to climb all over the engine.

Oooh thats a great idea!! Might stop the kids doing what my dad did when he was a kid too...ringing and saying there was a fire so that he could watch the fire engine...not good!!

Hi
I had one of these visits. I had a fire engine pull up with five hunky bods in it. 3 came in to my house, one chatted to me about safety issues and the other two put up x4 smoke alarms. They normally like to put them up in lounge, upstairs landing and any kids bedrooms.
They then offered for my son to look over the fire engine. He had five firemen and engine all to himself and he went shy and wouldnt' get in the engine. Bless.
I'm trying to think of an excuse for another visit. Loved it.

How long did you all have to wait for these visits? I requested a visit over a week ago and still haven't been contacted at all
