Hi,
I live in west london and am in the latter stages of setting up our minders.
I would absolutely love to do a sign language course, but they seem hard to find.
Anyone out there london based have any ideas about who i may be able to contact or how i may find one locally?

I put a thread on a few weeks back about an basic on-line course you can do for very little money. It might be a starting point until you find something else. I can't remember where I put it though! Ha ha! www.babysign.co.uk/There's the link for the site. You can ask for a certificate to be sent to you to say that you've been on and done the course once you've finished and you have access to the info for 12 months. Don't know if this is of interest to you? Lorri x

I have fairly recently completed a 'Makaton' course which has some very similar signs to the baby signing but can also be used for older children/adults who have learning difficulties. I thought that would help me put into practice my inclusion policy.

I have just completed Phase 1 of a Signalong course. I start Phase 2 in January. It runs for 6 weeks, 2 hours per week. It was really interesting and has helped my a great deal. The little boy I mind is 19 months and signs (his Mum and I went on a 1 day course when his sister was tiny) lots of things. I have now been able to expand his signing vocabulary as he is not a good talker yet. Being able to sign 'biscuit', 'eat', 'milk' etc has really stopped the frustration of not being able to tell me what is wrong. The website for signalong is www.signalong.org.uk. I think you could probably contact them and find out if there is a course in your area. I got my course funded my local Early Years. Good luck Jules
