If you want to follow Childminding as a profession then it's an excellent entry level course If you are thinking about moving into schools you should look at maybe an nvq or getting further advice, after school clubs will want you to be qualified in playwork, nurseries will prefer the nvq route as well..... It's all about where you want to be in a few years time really - I would give your early years people a ring on Monday and talk it through with one of them Sarahx

I agree with Sarah if you want to go into nurseries or schools etc I would opt for NVQ, The diploma is the under pinning knowledge (I THINK) for the nvq in early years care & education so you would just be making more work for yourself if you want a redirection in career in a few years. Jane

I've been told that by 2010 all childminders will be required to have a DHC Level 3 qualification, not sure how true it is though xxx
Brilliant course though would recommend

I agree with Sarah and the others it all depends on where you want to end up.
I did the CCP (forerunner to the DHC) as i have no intention in leaving childminding. If you are hoping to end up in school or similar eventually I would say NVQ. Although both are level 3 qualifications I would say that most nurseries etc would take an NVQ over the DHC even though it is wrong.
As someone else said by 2010 there is talk thatthey would like all to have a level three qualification.

Hi I am doing the DHC and am really enjoying it - done parts 3&4 and in the middle of part 2.
Its a good course if you intend to stick to childminding as it focuses on aspects relevant to what we do.
NVQ is a broader qualification as has been said
good luck x Holly

I decided not to do it. But hope to do NVQ 3 next year. As maybe one day I might decide to do something else.
