I'm finding it really boring and hard going, I'm sure the tutor could condense it to 1 hour all she would need to do is stop waffling, i would love to do the whole DHC course but i really don't think i could sit through two hours a week with her for the whole course.

hiya jen, this is only my second week but we covered health and safety last week and settling children in this week. So far it's all been handouts - no assignments and we got homework last week (risk assessment for a day at the park) but the tutor didn't mark them just had a quick look through them and we don't go in depth just skimming the topics really. The tutor did say that she recommends that we read up in our own time though. Oh yeah she also talked about the exam and how you need 18 out of 25 to pass but if you don't pass you can resit twice and if you still don't pass you get a certificate of attendence and ofsted will still register you!

I found the course quite boring as didn't really feel I learn't much. It was either stuff I already knew or common sense covered.
Sorry to dampen it for you but that is my opinion. x

haha that's okay wiggly, i'm feeling like that myself, it's so boring i keep asking questions and giving opinions but now i'm thinking that i shouldn't just in case the others think i'm either a know it all or just plain boring, still only another 5 weeks to go ;D ;D

When I registered in 1999 this wasn't out and no one has ever told me I have to do it. Although now as I'm doing the DHC I have to do the ICP first.
I'm doing it at home but have to go somewhere to do the exam. I'm quite glad it's at home as I'd probably find it boring too.
You're right though most of it is common sense, just remember it is only for a few weeks

Don't know because thankfully we didn't have to do it when I registered.
I just wanted you to know that the title of the thread made me laugh! ;D

I also found it boring! I am afraid it didn't get any better. All the lessons revolved around hand outs. Tip - get a large forlder with dividers and plenty of polly pockets! You will get so many hand outs, it's like your own private rain forrest! I think most of us felt we were not learning much, but we did absorb stuff, I passed my ICP exam so some of it must have sunk in! I would have prefferd to have some kind of homework to do at the end of each lesson, just a few short Q's to make sure I was understanding what was going on. But I have re read through all my handouts a few times and they do become a great refference centre! I am doing the first part of the course work at the moment (a bit behind). That is just as boring, I am supposed to be writing policies as I type... that reminds me lol....back to the grind! I am sure the fun will happen when we get our first kids to look after....lol
