I did it a earlier this year and found it really good! It gives you an overview of your practice and makes you think about all the good things you do... then at the end of each section, you reflect on what you have learned and where you want to go next with your personal development Useful if you've been doing the job a while and feel you want some direction.... We had workshops - groups got together and did training on each section - sounds quite intrusive someone coming every 2 weeks to be honest you shouldn't need that since you're reflecting on your own practice and she can't give you the answers to that! Have a good browse through the ncma site when you get a log in - useful stuff and some ideas of what people have put for answers on the trickier bits.... Ask if you need help! got mine backed up somewhere Sarahx

I haven't as I'm in a quality assured network & we don't get funding, so would cost me £250. Will probably do it once I have completed my DHC as they do say that this helps. Let us know how you all get on! Tasha

I've done it at Level 3 too, so happy to help if I can. I signed up when I first heard about it cos they said funding was limited, I was lucky not to have to pay. They also said there were no deadlines, which appealed to me but I was later told that I shouldn't have been told that - they do now expect you to finish it in about a year. I took nearly 4 years! They also said that the finished portfolio would be useful to show Ofsted and Parents. Rubbish! no parent or Ofsted Inspector has even picked mine up - there's far too much to read.
I'm glad I did it, although no parent has ever asked me if I've done it or heard about it when I've told them I've done it. It hasn't brought me any extra work (don't know about referrals from social services etc, not had anything like that, nor has anyone else I know, maybe thats a regional thing?) although I consider it sets me apart from those who haven't done it and it gives my ego a boost to have finished it at the highest level.
I found it very time consuming though, and difficult to work at home - in the evenings I'm so tired its hard to concentrate and pc is in lounge frequently interrupted by kids or dh or tv too loud etc!
I think if you can get funding and can set aside regular time each week to do it then go for it. I would think twice before paying full price - consider how many hours of childminding you'd need to do to pay for it and how long you expect to be in the business of childminding. Personally, I wouldn't have done it if I'd had to pay full price - I would have chosen NVQ or start foundation degree instead.
