Hi
I saw the earlier thread about this but was just wondering if anyone has actually done this yet and how they are getting on with it?
I'm going to have to do the ICP by distance learning as I can't physically attend the course and I'm a bit worried about it.
Do you still have to attend somewhere to do an exam or do you do that at home too? Is it all self-explanatory? I'm a bit worried about whether I will be disciplined enough to do it as well!

My friend is registering and wanted to do this because of evening childcare problems and was told no by the local authority cos it's too expensive and they're not prepared to fund it! Instead has been offered a place on a 2 day intensive course during the summer holidays which suits there would have been an exam at the end though which would have meant going somewhere to take it.... good luck! I did it via www.childcarestudy.org.uk - I paid for it myself then was refunded via a start-up grant. I traveled to Leicester for the exam. Even though a bit more expensive I much preferred doing it this way as I did it in my own time when it was convenient to me. I am now doing the remaining units of the DHC via them which was funded via a training bursary, Tasha

I too am doing unit 1 with the childcare study as I couldnt get to any of the courses. How did you find it? I am a little dissapointed with the way its handled. The lady who runs it came to drop off the papers so was here 10 mins. I read through the papers and had a few questions so I emailed her as you can never get them on the phone. The reply was 'I dont make the questions' and no help at all. I have my NNEB so i dont find it a problem but as a newly registered childminder I find it a bit odd that the papers can just be dropped off and then youre left to get on with it with no help or support at all What happens if there are bits you need help with. I know unit 1 is all common sense but a little support would be great. I feel like complaining but probably wont as I like the quiet life. Im just curious to see how your experience was ;D Becky

Hi Becky, I've had no support whatsoever either - on any of the units -the most she has done is look at a draft of one of my assignments & tell me it was a B (before I submitted it) & I got a C on it - that's it! I wasn't even given a book list! I only forward the info as it's cheaper then doing it with the NEC - so more likely to get funded for it! Tasha

I did it through NEC but again had no support and did complain. When I went to do the test paper at a centre, the questions asked were a real suprise to me as were nothing like the mock papers I had been sent. Luckily I passed but it was no credit to them
