Hi Does anyone know how often we have to re do our equal opportunities courses. I don't know if I am right but something rings in my head that it is recommended to do it every three years - I know my area certainly advises doing child protection every 3 years but I cannot for the life of me remember if I have to re do Equal Opps or not - I don't know if I am mixing it up and confusing it with child protection Anyone know? Dee

We've never been told that we should even do one, let alone re do it every so often. so either our area is slack or perhaps you are thinking of Child Protection.

WHAT !!!!! Sorry but please do not say it is something else we should be doing Dee I hope you are getting it mixed up with Child protection
In my area we have the option to attend courses like that but you do not have to and I never have We have never been told that we have got to do it

From both your reactions I think I must be confusing Equal Opps with Child Protection - I hope so anyway Thanks ladies Dee

Dee,
I've never even seen an equal opps course on the courses that the council run!!!!
I know it's compulsary that we have a policy, but apart from that it's every 3 years for child protection and first aid.

I was told I have to do a refresher for first aid every year and the full course every three....
can anyone tell me the deal with a refresher? As some people on my first aid course said they were just there for a refresher course but were doing the full thing the same as me......... a bit confused?
Yes - child proctection is every 3 as far as im aware Dee xx

I have never heard of a refresher course for first aid and I know they do not do that here I guess it would make sense though you do forget a lot in year
If they continue to enforce more courses and what with all the extra paperwork we do I do not think that I am going to get the time in the future to actually " childmind "

Yeah Angel - I agree with you on that one!! Lana - as far as I was aware we only have to do repeat first aid every 3 years - never heard of refresher after a year Dee

You don't have to do refreshers - it's a personal thing! Some big companies insist, but they pay for it as well!!!!

hiya i have done an equal opps course, but the only coures as far as i know that we have to do are first aid and safeguarding children, although if you are a network childminder you have to also have safeguarding children intermediate in blackpool (posh way of saying child protection 1 and 2) xx

We were even told to do a yearly refresher on the course.
Think i'll call and make sure im not expected to as they did seem to imply we had to.

OK am feeling fed up now - I've been registered for over 6 months now, am in a network and nobody has even mentioned an equal opps course - let alone doing one every 3 years - yet another thing I'm met to be psycic about! On top of that I've been actioned for something that doesn't come into force untill September 2008! Tasha

I have never heard of an equal opps course in our area.
Why do all of us seem to get different information???

I knew I had heard it before but couldn't work out where but now bells are ringing again and I am not sure if it is just a Surrey Network thing or a global requirement.
I have a few contacts in places and will look in to it and get back to you all when I get an answer.

We do not have to do it here and never have I did look into it when it was mentioned first by Dee but nope we do not do it
I am unsure why some do and some do not ? It just confuses us all it would be much better if everything was the same then we would all know where we stand
Maybe you are right Dee and you do it in your area ?

I know what you mean it is so frustrating - I can understand that things were different when we were under Social Services as it was seperate councils but was suppossed to be unified when taken over by Ofsted.
As I have said in previous posts it would be really helpful if we all sang of the same hymn sheet and that if I had to rate Ofsted it would be a big fat UNSATISFACTORY!!!!!
