I know that this will not apply to everybody as some areas do not have the funding for training bursaries - even if they do procedure may differ from area to area but it is something you should check.
This procedure definitely applies to SURREY:
As an existing childminder I could claim 2 thirds of the first aid training costs i.e. St Johns Ambulance course costs £75.00. In Surrey we can claim back £50.00 from the Early Years Training Bursary. Procedure used to be that you had to book the course, pay for it and send the receipt to Early Years and they would send back a £50.00 cheque.
THIS HAS NOW CHANGED (April 2007) - you have to apply for the bursary first, get acceptance and then book the course. I have been told today that as I have already paid for the course I probably won't get the bursary - to say I was annoyed was an understatement especially as I haven't received any notification that the system has changed.
As I said I don't know how each areas Early Team works or if they have the funds for the training bursary but it would be worthwhile to check first.

Only just noticed this post Dee sorry
That is great news though getting your money and yep after paying all that money for your car every little helps !!
Weird how they do things in each area though - we get all our training paid for us anyway just could be a while getting on a course as they are always full We would never be expected to pay and then claim later well I have never heard of that anyway
New childminders though expecting the grant that you get when you first start has changed a bit like yours When new childminders used to start - like my daughter did 3 year ago they just automatically got the grant From this year though they have to show a plan before they can get it A bit like when you are asking for a loan and you have to put down all your out goings and in goings There is a word for it but it is early and I can not remember ha Much more complicated to get now though
They do not like giving money away for nothing I guess
Anyway great news Dee
Angel xx
