Just wondering of anyone has done this course.
Elklan, speech and language development for under 5's. I start my course on th 23rd of the month and just wanted to know if anyone has done it and how they found it. Apparently I can chose at the start of the course whether I do NVQ2 or NVQ3.
Any advice and how beneficial has it been?
thanks

Went to the course last night.
Sounds like it is going to be really good. I have to now pick whether to do NVQ 2 or 3. The tutor has given us both portfolio's to look at and decide by next week. We have an activity to do so what I am thinking is to do the activity for both levels and then see which I feel happiest with. She did say that people have had no problems with the level 2 apart from some minor little points however, the level 3 has caused quite a few dificulties with some people, Mostly down to all of the evaluations you have to do. she has compared it to university standard work. And has also said that the level 3 is more for if you want to be a teacher or go on to develop language at uni.
Anyway, enough of all the headache stuff.
The course is made up of 10 sessions. Last night we were basically going through how we communicate. I was thinking 'we talk and someone listens and vice versa' Yeah thats in there, but it was the whole process from the 'idea' to 'look, listen, choosing words, articulatinig sounds, self monitoring' and thats just a few in the process. Basically breaking down what we do everyday without even thinking about it. It was really interesting.
I'd recommend it so far anyway. Its got me interested from the first session so thats always a positive!

Hey all.
Got my course again tonight. Have just finished my first piece of coursework - nothing like leaving it to the last minute but I have spent my afternoon off doing it since 2 oclock. Im tired now!!! But its done at least.
I have decided to do level 2 NVQ as this is what the tutor has recommended for those who do not want to go to university to develop further language skills - and at the moment I have no plans for this. So im saving myself needless work but would still like to do it a later date.
Will let you know how it goes tonight. If anyone is interested then you should give your local CIS a call to see if they have any courses coming up.

have had to quit the course. just cannot rely on Richard getting home on time to drop me to the course and have him look after Isabelle. Oh well, maybe i'll get to do it at a later date. Im a bit annoyed but also slightly glad also. If im totally honest im relieved that I dont have to sit in a room full of people who make me feel so uncomfortable. The last session I went to was horrible, im fed up of feeling like im some sort of outsider!! Anyhoo. the other option is just to eventually do the course in my own time - but then it costs a fortune intead of being free! Ho Hum

Oh Lana - I am sorry that you had to give up the course but it certainly sounds like you are relieved and maybe your heart wasn't really in it.
As you said you will be able to do it again at a later date - you never know when you are ready to try again you may be able to raise a bursary to help you with the payment.

Shame you were made to feel unwelcome Lana, not a very good tutor to let that happen! Hope you manage to get back on the course in the future.

I hope so too. Richard is away the for the following 2 sessions aswell so would have missed even more than I have already.
Maybe its a blessing in disguise and the next sessions might have a better crowd!
