Though it would be good to add a section for training and courses. I'm going to be doing two on-line courses over the coming weeks - Food Hygiene and Child Abuse Awareness, will let you know what they are like. Although I've done Child Protection, it was some years ago so I fancied doing a bit of a refresher. Foundation Stage Food Hygiene - I begrudge giving up a whole Saturday to go on a course so through the on-line one would be good. It's £25 + VAT I'm sure it won't be long before Ofsted insist you have a certificate. You do the courses in your own time and can stop for a break if you wish. If you can't wait and want to know more you can click the links on the 'childminder page' of the website: childmindinghelp.co.uk/childminderspage.html

Thanks for that Pauline
It is one of the reasons that I do not do some of these courses they are either on Saturdays or in the evenings starting at 7 and they are never ever local so I like you begrudge giving up my spare time
I like the idea of doing it in my own time much better
I will take a look
I might wait and see what you think first if you are actually going to do one though

Sounds like a good idea doing it in your own time, not too costly either. I shall wait and see how you get on!

Well I've just had an hour with the Child Abuse Awareness to start with. So far: It's really good that you can save how far you have got and then go back to it later. It's clearly explained with little testers along the way. Although I have done an 8 week child protection course in the past, I've actually learnt a few things today that I didn't know. I plan to continue tomorrow, after giving my brain a rest overnight. Watch this space!

I guess you do it in your own time but if you did an hour a day how long would it be expected to last?

Not that long Angel, they say allow around 4 hours for the Food Hygiene but I think it depends on how quickly you take in facts, some people might want to read more slowly and go back over things to be sure they fully understand.
That seems one of the best things - working on your own you won't be left behind like in a classroom when they move on to the next section.

These all sound really interesting courses, i've just sent off my application for online health and safety and food hygiene, which are both funded. Isnt it strange how areas get funding and others dont Its good to read what's entailed with the courses too.

for the love of god - anyone who needs to do food hygeine - DO IT ONLINE!!!!!!!!!!!! Cannot stress this enough. Have returned from mine today exhausted. Trying to stay awake through it was so physically demanding. To add insult to injury, it was held at a pre-school and did not supply us with ADULT table and chairs. Oh no, we had to sit on chairs designed for three year old for 7 hours. Needless to say I have written a complaint in the end of the evaluation form!!!!
Just have to make sure it is level 2 course!

lol
i was dosing myself with pain killers yesterday all day as my back was killing me. I had a horseriding accident when i was 11 and damaged my back a bit. Its fine and doesnt cause many problems but now and again it does give me some pain but that whole episode on saturday did nothing for me. I seem to be almost back to normal now though, just a bit twingy!
But i would hope that any of the other courses would be held in appropriate teaching conditions.

Well I've just done the on-line food hygiene and I can honestly say it was interesting and easy to do.
I'll do a separate review so that it's easy for everyone to find in the future.
