Hi, I was wondering if you could give me some advice about my 4 year old minded child. She will be 5 in May 2008 but starts full time school in January 2008. Is she then counted as a 5 year old? I need to know as I will only be having her for 1½ hours a day and not through the school holidays, so she will be taking up a full time space which I could fill with an under 5. I've looked through my paperwork but cannot find anything. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

In my understanding once a child is in fulltime education even if they are 4 years old they are classed in the 5-8 bracket.

"Children of any age who attend ten early education sessions a week, may be classed as children over five years for the purposes of the adult: child ratio"
That is an extract from the Welsh Standards but I am sure it is the same in England!

Hi
Thanks for that, I thought they were classed as 5 year olds, needed to get it clear as don't want to go over my numbers.
Amanda, what book did you find this info from as I searched my books and couldn't find anything.
Can I just say I would be lost without this forum, everyone is so helpful. Thanks again

I got it from the National Standards (Standard 13 in Wales). Not sure if it is written in the English ones as the link from NCMA wasn't working. I am sure someone from England will be able to confirm for sure for you.
I too would be lost without this so forum so I know exactly what you mean.
