Hi,
My 3 yr old cooks at nursery. He makes a choc crispie cake himself using a plate warmer and small saucepan to melt the chocolate. Can i do this with mindee's? Under full supervision of course and with a permission form. Got my pre-reg information sessions soon but dont know how much of this stuff will be covered.
Thanks all. xx

Cooking is a fantastic activity to do with the kids. I've never had a child that didn't want to join in. I can't see any need for having a specific permission for this, though.
You do need to ensure you have a list of any foods the mindees are allergic to or not allowed to eat/cook due to cultural/religious reasons or personal wishes.

The children I mind are always cooking with me and they help prepare meals when I have the time
It is a great learning activity for the children
Explain to parents that you do this and there should not be a problem I have never had a permission form and would not even think to have one
Just out of interest does your 3 year old have a permission form for cooking at nursery ?
Happy cooking - enjoy the mess ha

Angel, You raise an interesting point...I had to sign a permission slip for cooking activities when my daughter joined reception year! Maybe we should have cooking permission forms? Tasha

Yes that is what I was thinking
There again where does it end ??
We never had permission forms when my children were at school but I have heard that some do it now
We have permission forms for everything else I guess another one would not hurt and I suppose there are just as many dangers in the kitchen even hot water etc than there are out doors and we have forms for that !!
Just to explain to parents that children are supervised etc in a form ? Health and safety issues are in order etc etc ??
What did your school one have on it Tasha ??
What does everyone else think ?

I know what you mean about the increasing list of permission forms! If I remember correctly, it was something v. simple like; I give permission for my child_________________, to participate in cooking activities during their time at X school. Signed:_________________________ Print name:______________________ Date:__________________________ Tasha

I signed for my younger two children to cook at school very similar to Tasha's 1. I also get my mindee's parents to sign for cooking I include this on my permission sheet in my portfolio which they sign when child starts.

I'm trying to think of what possible reason a parent might have for declining permission ?

I've just redone my permission form to put them all on one A4 sheet instead of loads of different bits of paper - I can see the parents loving it if I ask them to redo it to add permission for cooking on!
I do think it's getting ridiculous - permission to breathe next!
