To be honest its a rant with a question at the end so feel free not to continue to read. Im struggling on these policies and procedures and no one (except hopefully you guys) can give me advise. Can you tell me your policies are they more than a page each? My friend did all hers in a day and ive only done one albe it the Child protection one. In mine it has a flow chart on how id deal with a concern and follow it through right through to informing social services etc. Gives contact info to the parents on police, ofsted and social services and although it goes on about abuse. i am just trying to protect myself however mines about a page and a half try to imagine this big fat flow chart in the middle taking up 2/3 of a page. Im just scared im doing these wrong. Any advise???

They are your policies - they can be as long or as short as you want them to be! It's a fine line between informative & too much I admit! Some of my policies are 1/2 page...one is 5 pages & the others are roughly 1 0r 2 pages. I generally meke my ploicies as long as they need to be to include all the info I want to be in them - if that means they are long then so be it! Below is a link to a great website to get an idea on policies & procedures: www.bromleycma.org.uk/policies/downloads.htmlHope this has helped! Tasha

Hi Charlie and welcome to the forum! Tasha's link is great for lots of advice and info on policies, permissions - all sorts of things You could also look at sample policies on the ncma website to compare ideas (you don't have to be a member) Some of mine are too long but I've always been wordy LOL - they have to say what you want them to say though, so are as long as you want them to be! To be honest, I wouldn't put a flow chart in - I'd use the one that comes with the 'what to do if you are worried' book and either photocopy it or direct the reader to it in a 'this is what I follow and it's stored...' sort of way Ask again if there's anything else Sarahx

Hi Charlie
I agree with Tasha and Sarah - the bromley website is great and it allows you to alter the wording and print off.
Good luck with finishing them

It is completely up to you. At the NCMA ARM this year did a workshop on policies and procedures and they said to keep them short and succinct sort of a paragraph on the policy followed by key points as bullets. Did not dare tell her my policy booklet is reams and reams. It is just the way I do things. The main thing is get the parents to sign that they have read and understood them

sounds like you and me will get on well when we meet lol (Tony said we will as you are as mad as me - idn't think that was possible lol). my handbook with policies in was around 46 pages but am in the process of updating it (well should be but keep coming on here and reading posts) and splitting into a separate book so would say policies are around 30 pages
love Kate
