Hi ya
I've just had an experience from a parent who thought she could get away with paying the notice for termination of contract by having as holiday pay and only paying half fee.
Bascally if you aske parents to give you eg 4 weeks amount of notice period in which to inform you for termination of contract make sure also that they cannot use the notice period as holidays and get away with paying your holiday fees instead.
a parent tried to do this with me she though if she classed the termination notice as holiday notice then she would only have to pay half fee but i put that i need 1 weeks holiday notice and 4 weeks termination notice otherwise full fee applies and she didn't give me notice for either but then refused to accept what was written in the contract even though she had signed it and i'd explained everything to her - how cheecky!!!
But she's got away with it as her husband and mine are good friends otherwise i would have started court proceedings.
So please be careful and if possible get a whitness and make sure your parents understand what they are signing

Or do as I do and charge full fee for holidays! I didn't used to, it was only after chatting with folks on here that I found I was in the minority in charging half fee for parents time off. Shame she got away with it, sounds like she is taking advantage of your friendship, at least you will know better next time.

I charge full fee as well for holidays and I am sure if you use the NCMA contract it says on it on the back that the notice period cannot include holidays.

I charge full fees for holidays too
More and more lately I am hearing of parents that are trying to walk all over childminders and not just friends either
It is so sad that we have to cover our backs in so many ways now
What happened to nice honest people ?

I've always charged full fee for holidays too.
As Lorraine said NCMA contracts state your notice period cannot include holidays
Sorry to hear she got away with it this time.

I charge 1/2 fee!!
Yes I thought it was on the contract about 4 weeks no holidays for termination, my policies are. I recently gave notice for some and they put in hol but I still charged them full price as within the contract

Sorry you got ripped off this time - the NCMA contracts are good because they cover a lot of these sorts of situations.
Put it down to experience - you won't get caught twice.
