I've spent the last three days writing policies and procedures and I think my head is going to explode!! I'm about there but have three questions... What do you include in a parents welcome pack and how do you all present these? What do you all use for your childs daily contact books...if you all even use these?! How much notice do you require to terminate a contract? I can't wait until this is all sorted and I can start actually childminding!!

Ok,
I do a daily diary, consists of what we did, any new achievements, food eaten, naps.
I require 4 weeks notice of termination of contract.
In my info pack I put things like fees, a selection of policies ie; equal opps and confidentiality. Supplies needed working in partnership with parents policy, a bit about me and my family. And a sample of our activity planners.
Hope that helps

I only use daily contact books for under one's for older children I have a chat with their parents at each end of the day.
Four weeks notice on either side to terminate the contract.

1 - welcome pack, don't do one as such they get handbook including policies when they come for interview when they sign contract they get A5 plastic wallet of forms (existing injury form, booking extra hours, terminating contract etc). 2. Diary. A5 spiral bound notebooks (I buy a load at sale prices where possible) Some days they just get a few lines with essential info, sometimes extra info about caring/mature behaviour (or the opposite) and anything funny they said, books/toys they chose. Anything particularly postive and anything they found frightening/challenging etc. Also note if I've enclosed invoice or filled an accident form that day etc.
I make clear to parents that they are welcome to use the book as well - to write in notes to me about payment/holidays etc or about the child (any accidents at home, new experiences, if they've been up all night etc).
3. 4 weeks for long-term contracts, 2 weeks for temporary contracts.

I'm coming towards the end of all of this portfolio stuff (if that is ever possible!!) but am still a little confused about the parent packs. I have about 40 policies and just printing them for my portfolio has used half an ink cartridge!!! Do you include them all or just a selection?

I only have a list of policies in my welcome pack.
I also have a lot of policies so have them in a separate pack.
Then have a separate pack for permission slips also.
