Do you have to get permmision for minded children to watch dvds in England? i've just been to a network meeting and we have been told that unless the dvd/video/computergame is u/age3 we have to have written permission from parents even for PG's with older children. Thanks Jane

I must say that I have never heard of that - not sure if anyone else has
Of course we would use our own common sense when watching a DVD and this is explained to parents on their first visit
We only watch a DVD on the odd occasion anyway and most of the time it is when it is pouring of rain the whole day or a special treat for someones birthday when a child brings one in to watch
I do have a tv policy and explain that I limit the tv and dvds and I do say that children are only allowed to watch a dvd that is suitable for their age
I never get permission and do not intend too parents know they watch them sometimes and are happy with this
Please do not tell me I need another permission form haha It is just something I have never thought to do even though I do mention it

I don't have a permission form for this, but then we rarely watch dvds anyway. I have put a note in my handbook that if they bring one from home we might not have time to watch it and I won't show it if I haven't already seen it as I need to make sure its appropriate for ALL the children present.

As Angel and Susi say, I just have a policy which says I won't abuse it by putting it on all day - please don't send inappropriate viewing

I don't have a permission form for this either but I have been surprised sometimes when a child has brought a DVD from home that is for a much older age group - we haven't watched them despite the "mum lets me watch it" plea.
Just can't face the thought of doing any more policies/ procedures/ paperwork!!!!!!!!

I hadn't heard about permission forms for watching dvd's either. Like most of you, we rarely have the t.v. on if we can help it. Lets hope we don't need to have yet another permission form signed by parents!!!! Emler x
