Before speaking to my Link Officer today I was pretty confident that my paperwork was quite good and I had covered lots of eventualities. Then she confused me I have worked to teh 14 national standards and then she started talking about the 5 standards which I would be inspected on. This threw me and then I realised that I had grouped them into these standards due to a previously given template (thanks sarah ). I don't seem to have ever received an 'every child matters' booklet / pack to work from. What does it look like? Is it part of birth to three? Sorry for the garbled question but I feel like I don't know what I'm doing right now and if Ofsted came tomorrow I'd look stupid (prob no more than usual though ) Mel x

I'm no expert but I'm guessing that you needn't worry. I'm sure that you will have it all covered but just organised differently that's all. I would have thought that it's up to you how you organise your own business paperwork.
Other people on here will have better advice though so don't listen to me!

Will this help? I've got it in my portfolio under 'Organisation' Sarahx
Every Child Matters – an overview All my work with children aims to follow the 5 areas of good practice as identified in Every Child Matters – • be healthy • stay safe • enjoy and achieve • make a positive contribution • be organised Helping children to be healthy –
Aim – to show by example how children can eat and drink healthily and keep their bodies fit and healthy; to educate children about their personal hygiene; to understand about childhood illnesses and stay informed
Helping children to stay safe
Aim – to use all available resources to ensure children are kept safe from harm; to understand what to do if I think a child is being abused; to keep my accident and emergency policies up to date; to ensure I am fully insured; to complete and continually re-asses a risk assessment
Helping children enjoy and achieve
Aim – to encourage all children to achieve, no matter what their age, gender cultural background or level of ability, while praising and rewarding their achievements and good behaviour; to plan their days to fully incorporate all areas of learning; to observe children so I am fully informed for future planning; to understand children’s areas of development
Helping children make a positive contribution
Aim – to allow and encourage all children to make a contribution to their daily lives – by valuing their individuality and diversity; by showing them how to feel good about themselves; by helping them to appreciate and value each other’s similarities and differences in a positive way; by helping children manage their behaviour; by working in partnership with parents and carers to positively enhance a child’s learning experience; by maintaining a complaints log
Be organised –
Aim – to keep my paperwork up-to-date and available for inspection at all times; to keep parents fully informed about my policies and procedures; to ensure confidentiality

What your link officer should have said was the 14 standards and the 5 outcomes for children. Sarah's explanation is perfect

To be honest Pauline, I have never heard any good reports from her. She answers no questions that local childminders have and is of little support. She only visits if she knows you have an inspection pending so that she can cover her own back. I knew I would get more sense from you lot than from her - and I was right. I think I now have it in my head Mel x
