I'm in the process of writing my flu policy - I'm stuck on fees - If my local authority forces me to close, as they will every childcare setting in the area- do I still charge fees? As the parents will not have any additional costs, as everyone will be closed and they will still get payed from their jobs - I was thinking of charging, but am unsure, so really would appreciate advice!!! Thanks

Sorry Tasha - still haven't got around to sorting this one out so can't advise you but will hopefully get to it by the end of this week so will let you know my thoughts then.
Hopefully somebody else has looked at it and thought about what they are planning to do as their areas may have already issued the national guidelines - sometimes Surrey can be a bit slow in handing out info.

I'd be inclined to say that you will charge full fee Tasha and then worry about it when the time comes. It's possible that by then there might be special measures in place to re-imburse lost income or at least you could review your policy at the time if you felt it necessary if parents where not getting paid etc.

I got my info from Surrey on Friday - hence why I'm now doing my policy. Basic info is to have a "service plan" ie policy - keep setting open - keep good hygiene practices and only close if you or your family become ill, or advised by Local Authority. State what fees will be charged during a pandemic. Not to accept ill children and arrange extra emergency contacts so ill children leave your setting immediately, and provide parents with info regarding pandemic (which is cheeky as it means more cost for us as we have to go to the site, download and print and then give to parents - parents are perfectly capable of doing this themselves)!!!! But it states that childcare providers have o provide parents with the info booklet! Oh and sort out how to keep in contact with parents (not face to face or mail).

Your local authority should send this out to you with your local bumf - save it and wait for them to send you a copy so your printer ink is wasted!!!!! ;D
