Hi there, i'm new.. brand new as of minutes ago! I have a 3 year old and have always worked full-time from her being 6 months. We have been trying for another baby since April and around then was the time when we deiscussed childminding as an option. I've taken my time to look at the pros and cons.. 3 weeks ago I contacted my local CIS and applied. They have told me that there are no dates as yet for pre-registration briefing sessions and that i'm on the waiting list. I guess I just have to sit and wait till after the new year. It's just so frustrating! I was wondering how long the whole process takes (I need educating what the 'whole process' is too!) I'm a qualified NNEB (cache) nursery nurse from years ago and have been working in Primary and Secondry schools with children with SEN for 9 years. Just a little background info there so you know I 'should' be able to cut the mustard as a childminder.. and a lovely one at that. Any help/advice or words of wisdom would be great.. looking forward to chatting on the board

i went to my briefing session at the end of september and i am still not registered. I have done my icp course and have my exam on wednesday and i have ha my pre reg inspection from ofsted and i am now just waiting for my ssafa checks to go through apparently my crb is waiting to be printed. So hopefully i will be registered before christmas but some people have been registered fairly quickly and others it has taken months. It really depends on how quickly ofsted can come out to do your pre reg inspection and how quickly all your checks go through. good luck and welcome to the forum

Hi I am sorry you can't get on a pre registration meeting but I am one will become available pretty soon. I have attached the link (from Ofsted website) to a booklet that will be given to you at the registration meeting. This booklet tells you what you need to know and how long the process will be. www.ofsted.gov.uk/assets/Internet_Content/Shared_Content/EYD/Files/Type_B_CM_guide.pdfI hope this helps but if you have any more questions then please ask. Hi! Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.
I had my briefing mid- June and got my certificate end of September. My doctor took 8 weeks to sign the health declaration booklet and held it up.
Where are you based? I am surprised they have no dates for pre-reg briefing...unless they have just had one.
Good luck! Jana x

Thanks so much for the link. I shall read it now.. hopefully answering some of my questions I'm in Durham. I asked if I could be on a waiting list for if anyoe cancelled - they said they have no session in November/December and that i'm on the waiting list.

I began the process at the end of April and received my certificate in Oct. I won't be starting until next week though, but that's due to waiting for redundancy from my office job. The major hold-up was the CRB check - it took a lifetime (and mine was fast-tracked by a friend who works there)!!! I'd advise you to send off the CRB form as soon as you receive it.
