Hi everyone, I was in the middle of filling in my forms for ofsted when my 19 year old son, who lives with me, announced that in september this year he had been given a police caution for public disorder! I had no idea! And I don't suppose he would have revealed it had he not had to fill in the CM2 forms. Now I wonder if this is likely to go against my application? He has not been in trouble before or since. The actual offense was commited in the city centre under the influence of alcohol & amongst a group of his friends. (you get the picture, lads were not allowed into nightclub because they are drunk, lads get rowdy ....) I have my ICP exam next week & am wondering if my dreams are about to fall apart! Any advice or opinions gratefully accepted thanks, Karen

As long as you declare it it shouldn't be a problem...do't froget to deglare any traffic penalties ie speeding..apparently this catches a lot of people out!!! Tasha

Hello Karen
That must have come as a shock to you
Well like Tasha said make sure you do not try to keep it a secret
I think it would be very unlikely if they held this against you
It does depend what the crime is and your sons is not serious
"A caution is a warning given by the police to adults who admit they are guilty of an (often first-time) minor offence . A caution acts as a first official warning and deterrent to anyone from getting involved in crime."
"A simple caution is not a criminal conviction, but it will be recorded on the police database and may be considered in court if you are tried for another offence."
I am sure you will be fine
Good luck

Thanks, Angel & Tasha for your replies & advice. My son has declared it on the form so it hasn't been hidden, my thoughts were that if this would be a definate no no then there's not much point going on with the registration. I guess with the shock of this revelation I was over-reacting! I can now look at it positively (sort of ) and the offense wasn't at my home, it as a first offense, none of the group were charged they all received a caution, my son will not be looking after any minded childen & to be honest he is hardly ever at home these days! Although I know he still has to fill in the forms. I expect it to show up on his crb but will it be mentioned on my reg cert or crb? thanks again for your reassurance & responses Karen ps I don't have to worry about driving offenses...I don't drive!

It is highly unlikely thay it will be mentioned on your certificate or your crb as the others have said it is only a caution. I have just started suport childminders and one of the new girls had a drunk and disorderly when she was 18 the development officer said it was highly unlikely that this would effect her aplication as long as she disclosed it. I would not worry Lindaxx

I was under the impression that as long as any criminal records etc weren't violence, child or drug related that should be ok. Don't quote me though I might be wrong.

I am also a support minder and frequently attend pre registration meetings to help out the local Early Years teams.
These sorts of questions are always raised and answered with it shouldn't cause a problem but ALWAYS be honest and declare EVERYTHING no matter how minor and as you he has done this I don't think there will be a problem.
