Hello. I got through today my application form to to the ICP course and the OFSTED briefing session, which was great until I looked at the date!
The only date they have avaliable (which I still may no get into) starts on Jan 8th. Now my Baby is due on Dec 23rd. Now I will definatly have had baby by then, but depending on when she decides to arrive, she may only be a day or so old!
I don't know what to do! I have been reading this site and have ead that some people can't get on a course for a year! So I don't want to just let it pass by! But at the same time - can't leave baby if she is only a few days old?!?!
Do you think they will allow baby to come with me if she is that tiny? Or do you think I should apply and make arrangements nearer the time. Hopefully OH should stil be on paternity leave by then but the course is 2 hours, plus travelling time, and I am planning to Breastfeed so proably won't even be able to leave her with him for that long!
Please send me your opionions! What would you do? What will happen if I get on the course but then cancell? Will I loose the right for a free course?
Sorry for a long post!

Work along the lines that you are going & see when it gets to the time...take hubby with you & he can have LO & if you need to feed you can, but he can have LO most of the time so you can concentrate & take notes etc. Or you could express.... If it turns out you can't go then ring the day before & explain....I'm sure it won't be a problem...but may be a wait till the next meeting! Do you know that your having a girl or was that wishful thinking?! ;D Tasha

Yes it is my first, and yes it is a girl!
I had thought about expressing, however have been told it can be quite hard and alot of people cant do it?
When you say bring hubby with me - will they allow that?

If you book the course and then cancel at the last minute they may ask you to pay for it, when they sent me my confirmation they said on it that failure to attend would result in me having to pay the whole course fee.
If i was you i would book the course and try and express milk so that your OH can look after her. If you cant manage to express you tend to have a break in the middle of the 2 hours (well we did) and then you could dash off and o feed her if need be.
I dont drive so when i had my course my hubby used to take me and then sit and wait in the car for me till i'd finished (it wasnt worth him driving back home) They wouldnt allow him to sit in on the course because they thought he might be a distraction so dont know how they would feel about a baby being in their particularly if she cries alot.
Congratulations and good luck with your new baby girl x

I think I would stay booked on the course and wait and see
Some courses you do have to pay for if you do not show up - but if you explained it was unavoidable then I am sure they would understand
You are just going to have to go with the flow on this one I think

My local branch of the NCMA run our courses for free, and advised that if we are attending but have to miss a session due to illness, good reason etc that we are able to make up the missed session on a later course. They also suggested that for those who are unable to attend the dates/times they offer, that the local colleges tend to run them on a regular basis, or as a last resort, distance learning (cant remember the company that they suggested) but this is apparently quite an expensive way to do it. Who are you doing urs with? If its with ur local NCMA i am sure they would prob be the same in letting u catch up the missed session on the following course? ? Colleges i find also tend to be able to get round these problems if u r doing it through them. Michelle. (good luck with the babe)

Hi!
I just thought, could you see when the next course is and if it's too far away in the distance find out if they would be prepared to fund you to do it by distance learning?
I'm doing it that way as I'm unable to attend as hubby's away a lot and I'm having mine paid for.
Just a thought.

They might...depends...you should get a break, so could feed then...at the end of the dya I really can't see it being a big deal if hubby is somewhere with LO & it's just for a feed...But all tutors are different, so might be worth seeing if you can get to speak to your tutor & explain situation?
